Tried to wrap my 2015 S550 roof today...

I know this is the sedan section but there's not much activity in the coupe section so I'm hoping maybe someone here can help me figure this out. So I tried to have the painted portion on my coupes roof wrapped gloss black today to match the glass part of the roof. I figured it would give it a sportier look and a nicer contrast which is certainly did. However for some reason with the wrap on the cars camera system would no longer work. It would give a "360 degree camera unavailable" message every time I would put the car in reverse or push the button to activate it. It would not even let me see the regular reverse camera either. As soon as we peeled the wrap off both of the cameras worked fine again. When I got home I threw a bath towel over that same section of the car to test if it being covered in general was the issue but it works fine. It must be the film for some reason?

Here's some before and after pictures. Loved the way it looked but not willing to sacrifice the cars camera system for it. Trying to figure out how to make any sense of this and hopefully find a solution so I can have it done again where everything works normally.

I'm not sure why the pictures are sideways.

Funny. I've been toying with the idea of wrapping the front, fixed portion of the glass roof on my W222 sedan, along with the trim rails, in the body color (Palladium Silver) to make my car look more traditional, since I HATE the frigging Pano roof that MB shoved down my throat by making the hideous thing standard. Enough already with the glass roofs! They should be optional. Just sayin.

I love how what you did looks. It does make it look more appropriate, it kinda matches while hiding the glass roof. I have no idea however why the 360 degree camera would not work unless the wrap was sooooo dark it shut it down?

Yeah the only thing I can possibly think of is that it's the material of the 3M film. Maybe since it's reflecting the signal or something. I even tried putting garbage bags over that section of the roof last night and it worked fine. So it's not just the fact of the area being covered. It must have to do with the actual wrap materials for some reason?

One of the few things that I dislike about the W222 is that the entire roof isn't glass like it was with the W221!
However, OP why don't you consider painting your roof gloss black instead? Especially since the heat melts the vinyl into the roof after a while.

Looks good. You should be fine with the vinyl material on your roof. Vinyl technology has come a long way from several years ago. If vinyl was such a hazard to paint on cars, it probably would not be as popular as it currently is.

What about wrapping a glass roof? Some of us don't like the pano roofs and would like the roof to be the color of the rest of the car. Would wrapping the car cause the glass to crack in summer heat? Have you ever wrapped a pano roof?

I don't really see how having vinyl on a piece of glass would can really cause it to crack.

However, the bigger issue is actually finding a vinyl that would match your car's body color. Since vinyl only comes in so many pre-determined colors, it is typically fairly unlikely that you'll find a match that would be able to even come close unfortunately.

I would much rather have a silver roof that was close to the color of the body. My concern is that the vinyl, with sun beating down on it, will cause the glass roof to get hotter than normal and then crack.

Mercedes Benz E350, Toyota Highlander Limited, Saab 9-5, BMW 5 Series, W222 S Class, W205 C Class,
I think that the wrap is too dark so the car probably thinks that there's something covering it.
