2017 s550 good deal

Msrp of the car is around 109k. I will be placing the order tomorrow. How much discount on the msrp should I fight for. What would be a good price on the car. Guide me please the wise humans of mbworld.

Certainly under $100K. Great deal would be $97K my 2 cents.

Get an E63 for that price, unless you need the space for you and/or are being driven around. IMHO

That is an interesting value judgment!

After getting the facts on this thread I increased the price of my build to 110,570. The dealer started with the offer of 6% discount. I made the deal at 8.5%. If i had more patience 9%-9.25% was doable. I didn't push all the way. I am happy with the outcome for now unless if you guys think that i made a blunder on the price of a 2017 s550. Thank you for all the advice. It helped me a lot.

I like the S class and in my subjective opinion S is geared more towards what I am looking for in a car.

I would have thought 10 to 15% would be possible on a 17 ... given that the face lift is right around the corner. Q- Why did you order vs buy already built 16?

The deal did not go through because i backed out at the last minute. The 2017 has a 9 speed transmission while the 2016 has a 7 speed transmission. I am going to wait for the car to hit the market in august and try to make a deal. Will be visiting more dealers and like you said the facelift is coming out so i will try to get a much better deal.

I know the 9 speed will improve gas mileage but wonder if it will also improve the driving experience. I drive in sport mode and find I need to switch over to economy to get to 7th gear at 60 mph if I accelerated at all during the drive, otherwise it stays at 6th. The transmission all ready needs to drop two gears when accelerating so it will be interesting to see how the extra two are incoroporated without the shifts becoming too noticeable. Dave

VERY different cars. Both have merits, obviously, but if you've never driven an S class it is really something else. Very different experience to an E ... and not much slower, if you tune the S. (hint, hint )

If you can get 10-12% off an ordered 2017 now (arrives fall 2016), I don't think you'll do much better unless you'll willing to wait another year into fall 2017

Substantial changes for 2018 would tend to point towards a less than stellar sell thru for dealers. Not committed but gm I spoke with expects to order less than half of his last years run rate of s550s. In fact when asked about 17 pre orders he said mine would be one of the first.

I believe an additional reason dealers may order less 2017 (beside the thought of 2018 model year refresh) models has to do with MBUSA is still figuring out what to do with all the 2016's sitting at the ports. My local dealers are still pulling in '16 S550s onto their lots that have been sitting at the ports for 6 months.

Sales numbers for May 2015 for S Class cars were 1922 vs. May 2016 of 1510 units. I would hope dealers order less since MBUSA may not want to store 6 months of inventory at the ports.

When are they to do the face lift? 2014 was just done. I thought it is at least 5 years between major changes.

Generally the face lift is 3 to 4 years while the major redo is 7 years.

Lota6177 - go with -0- down as any down payment or trade is lost in the (hopefully unlikely) event of a total loss.

Good move on cancelling. Sales have totally stalled as of April or so, largely due to Tesla. Prices have yet to follow, but should soon.

Why do you say sales have totally stalled as of April or so, largely due to Tesla?
