S63 Transmission Issues

Trying to get some guidance. Car is a 2014 S63 with 28,000 miles. Took car in for service last week with complaints of jerky transmission at slow speed worse when it is in Sport mode. Dealer updated the powertrain and transmission computers.

This made the issue worse, especially in Sport mode on the 2-1 downshift the car almost slams into first gear. The next option they thought was to change the fluid and filter which is due at 40,000 miles anyway. So I go to pick the car up and the service advisor thinks something isn't right with the car.

I get in and the transmission seems to be slipping. The car won't engage until 1500 or so RPM's same thing in reverse.

Fast forward to this morning, the tech checks the fluid level and it is correct. No stored faults and does the wet-clutch adaptation.

At this point the car is smooth in Comfort. In Sport it is still jerking on the 2-1 downshift. They claim the adaptation needs to be done again when the car is cold.

Just need some advice, I know some '14 cars had transmission issues. Should I opt for transmission replacement?

Thanks

It has been the nature of these cars, some are much worse than others

Try a tranny reset on your own, see if it helps

TRANSMISSION RESET - if you have KEYLESS GO do not remove the Start button

* Press Start button twice, this sets it to key position 2
* Floor gas pedal for 10 seconds
* Press Start/Stop once. This turns it OFF
* Release gas pedal and wait two minutes
* Then start the engine and begin driving

Is this really a thing or a wives tale? Do you have documentation or a link for this? And, what does this do ( if it really works )?

Thanks!

A quick search in this forum might just answer your question without having to doubt others...

Speak with service manager to request they open PTSS (MB technical support) case.

I went to " The Source "...my MBZ owners manual and could not find any indication of this being a thing.

People on Forums can say anything. It's certainly not gospel.

I think that is the next step. I hate more delays. Worst case scenario is a new wet clutch or transmission. For now it seems the issue is in the wet clutch.

The current 63 trans (MCT) has had its share of issues with shift quality (there is no torque converter, it utilizes a wet clutch)...there are several threads about this on the AMG forums.

It appears that you misunderstand the purpose of an owners manual.

It tells you how to operate your vehicle, nothing else. Diagnostics, tips & tricks, etc. are not meant for that and the lack thereof doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

That said, if you spend a little time here one the forum you find many helpful posts but it's up to you to believe them or not.

What does help is not to ask for things that have been posted hundreds of times over. A quick search would have shown that this procedure exists and what it does...

The method he told you to reset the transmission is the truth. It works on nearly all Mercedes cars. I've been doing it on my E-class for years. Keep in mind it's only temporary.

S63 transmission issues

My s63 has suffered from the same issues for a couple years. After many visits where the dealer had the car sometimes for over a week “testing” they always defalted to resetting the codes to factory settings. Finally on this last visit I got someone to take it seriously and they found antifreeze in the transmission fluid, now they are replacing the transmission and radiator. They say they never tested it before because they never see this type of issue. I have a feeling it’s a bigger problem than they want to admit. Hope this is the fix.

Dont you just ever wonder what they really do with something like an S63 in a week of “testing,” or those “The mechanic wants to drive it home overnight” type things? Ever find any crumpled time slips from your local drag strip on the floor?

Seriously though, the transmission problems posted on this site for various 63 models are so voluminous, you would think that some sort of a class action lawsuit would be in order. I mean, these cars are expensive and driven by rich people. Enough is enough already. I’d tell them I want my money back or I’m filing a law suit.
