2014 S550
New owner of a 2014 S550 - couple of ?s

First off, hello everyone! I've been reading through several pages of posts of the last week after purchasing my first MB. I purchased a 2014 with the following options:
Designs mocha black
Nut brown/nappa leather
Premium 1 package
P88 Edition 1 package
445 warmth and comfort package
585 air balance package
997 driver assistance package

The car is great so far. I've mostly owned American cars and most recently the 2014 CTS V Wagon. I think the V matched (bested) the S class for performance but wasn't in the same league for luxury, comfort, room, etc. I don't know that I will ever purchase an American car again after this car.

I'm curious what I got with the Edition 1 package? Is it just badging, rims and trim?

There's an insert in the rear right passenger door that looks to be a small cup holder... I don't believe that's what it is, perhaps something that holds an umbrella? I'm attaching a picture...

In the glove compartment on the compartment door there are inserts that looked like they would hold business cards but I don't think they are big enough.

Should my car have come with the pillows for the rear headrests? I asked my dealer and they said no because of the option packages... I'm just curious.

Thanks in advance!

Seems strange to me that a First Edition model not come loaded with more options. Or, were they trying to hit a price point to get them on the streets?

Heads up display, 3D Burmeister and Magic Body Control would have made the vehicle perfect, IMHO.

It does have Burmeister speakers... I thought the dealer said it was 3D (it certainly sounds good when watching a movie. I believe it has split view which is also not listed on the included build sheet. I will have to search around to see if I can print a build sheet using my VIN.

I am not complaining since I didn't buy it new, but I would have liked magic body control, 3D camera and NV... I don't know that I will miss them. I'm surprised that a car with this price point didn't come standard with remote start... I understand they started to later. Again, not complaining as I never used remote start when I lived in Wisconsin or in Texas so I likely wouldn't use it here in California.

I will say that MBrace is a joke compared to OnStar (factoring in the price). The Wifi is so slow it's unusable (which is fine since I won't use it).

Sorry to say ( from looking at the pictures of your car ) it does not have the 3D upgrade sound system.

Your dealer can easily print out a MSRP window sticker for you. MBrace and Mercedes Me app actually work pretty well for what they do. Never tried the wifi in my car, never saw a need for it.

Edition 1 models are never loaded. Typically lower to mid-range in terms of options. Some have have options not available or part of different packages (like the Swarowsky headlights on the coupe).

The heads-up display was only introduced for MY2015

The star trek cut out in the rear door is for the ashtray cup

Pillows IIRC required either/or rear powered seat or warmth/comfort pkg

Thanks everyone! I thought the car had a lot of options... until I started really researching the available options. Either way, I'm happy with the car.

I do have rear powered seats and the warmth and comfort package. I believe the dealer lost the pillows, as well as the spare key. They are ordering replacements for me on their dollar but I had to ask for both (I asked for the key at purchase).

Congratulations on your car. Enjoy!

Not having every option on your car won't diminish your experience. One can add nearly $70k in options to th S-class (over $160k) and very few of those have ever been built...

I have a 2013/14 W222 loaded except for HUD, was not an option with the car and rear Fridge. Pillows are pricy. $110- to $150- each, ask me how I know.

If you need any OEM parts, give them a call, lowest pricing around...
https://www.mbdirectparts.com/auto-p...omponents-scat
You can call them directly with any questions, they are very helpful.

Congrats with the car. I agree with you, OnStar was way better, I will never go back to GM cars. I find myself using Sport mode often, the stock power is amazing. Thinking of doing the ECU upgrade from dealer.

I find myself looking to take long trips just to enjoy the car. The 3D Bur is incredible.

The "Cupholder" in the rear passenger side door is actually where the AshTray goes.

Thanks guys.

I don't smoke so I do t care about the ash tray (it's missing)... but I am making the dealer get me replacement pillows and my second car key.

My maps are on 2.0 so I'm going to have that updated. I won't likely stay up to date but at least update for now.

I did the bimmerguru unlock so my wife can enter addresses or I can put on video for my kids if/when they are in the car with me. I also installed the Thinkware F770 front/rear cameras...

I will have to research the ECU upgrade. It sounds intriguing... my Cadillac V had several engine mods and a computer reflash. It dyno'd 650 at the wheels. This car is fast but that car was faster/cornered better. But overall this car blows that car out of the water and I will never go back... I guess if I really cared about performance I could get an AMG but I'm just enjoying the cruise!

I just purchased the F770 also. Can you post some photos of it installed? Does the rear camera interfere with the rear sunshade? Did you go with the standalone battery pack or direct to the battery.

Thanks....

It will be interesting if the dealer is going to throw in the bags stuffed with cash, uh, I mean the rear pillows... Get ready for a song from them. I'd be surprised if they throw them in...

I installed the rear camera lower on the window so that it doesn't interfere with the sun shade... I found that higher up on the glass and it is in the way. I wired directly to the battery (no battery pack) as I read that it can take an hour to charge the battery pack and my drive to-from work is short. I set the shutoff voltage at 12 volts on the camera and haven't had an issue.

The rear sunshade comes up from the bottom, right? How does it get around the camera?

Not sure how I would feel about having the camera in the middle of the rear window.

Here is a pics of our install. Can't be seen from the inside at all and doesn't interfere with the shade...

Also, the Escort 9500ix? won't work in that windshield location since you have IR coated glass. Just FYI

Interesting to see the clear 3M adhesive shows some bubbles on these pics even though in normal light and normal (no sub-zero) temps it's not really visible.

I like your location for the rear camera... I will move mine... the shade didn't interact with the camera as I installed it at all which is why I put it there. Yours is better...

Thanks for the tip on the glass... I've read threads/posts where people said the "IR cutout" but I wasn't sure where they meant. Perhaps you can post a pic for me? I will try googling...

Nice S550

I picked up a 2014 CPO S550-4matic with just about the same equipment as your car with the exception of the paint, I think your Designo Mocha Black is one of the nicest MB colors out there. In any case, I have the standard 18" wheels on my car and without going into a long explanation, my car has the standard 18" wheels with regular non runflat tires. I don't know why but there's no tire pressure placard on the gas tank door, I was wondering if you have 18" wheels can you tell me what the placard states the maximum tire pressure for the front and rear tires should be as well as the normal tire pressure, any help will be appreciated. Good luck with the new S550.

I have 19" wheels with the Edition 1 package... so I don't know that I can help...

@wolfman - I googled the cutouts and was able to see what you are talking ago from a different angle... I lowered my 9500ix to center, lower dash to make use of the cutout.

I moved my rear camera as well... I like it better in your location but it does get bumped by the rear screen when going up/down... it doesn't seem to be an issue but it does bump... does yours?

I have a Escort Max and have it positioned in the top cutout by the passenger sun visor. Works OK for front radar and GPS on decent weather. So it works but not ideal. Unfortunately for radar protection, only a built-in RD works best on the S-Class. I find the Escort live service fills in some gaps.

I use the Blackvue dash cams in our cars and it looks like the rear cam is a bit smaller than yours. That's why the top of the screen works fine. The drawback is the lower 720p resolution in the rear; I had bought that one before the F770 came out.

That said, even if it would have hit the screen the last inch, that location really is the only place to put it. Looks perfect from the inside and I assume most never move the screen up or down. Ours us always up...

Where did you guys grab power from? Do you use parking mode? Did you set the power cut off below 12V?

I was thinking of using Velcro and attaching it to the side of the trunk battery for a neat and hidden install, and also protecting draining the battery. You can also daisy chain 2 of these for extended recording.
