Garage door opener

Lately, my 2014 222 garage door opener feature has very poor function, i.e., multiple attempts at different distances then finally it'll work. I have no similar problem with 2013 SL opener. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Difficult to tell. You might want try to erase/re-program. On casual tests, our S-Class has the same range as the SL. About 100ft.

My 2016 has no problem opening the garage door from far away. I just tried, about 15 yards away, and it worked promptly.

I remember reading somewhere that the Home Link works best 'in-signt.' Try to face your S222 to the garage door, and see if it works better.

It might or might not be the case, yet worth to troubleshoot.

Best luck,

Mine works every time from 50' out, the car is not head on to the door, closer to a 90 deg angle because of a turn in the driveway approach. I do have to hold the Homelink button down almost 3 seconds for the rolling code to register.

I find the MB homelink system to be very sub par compared to other car companies. I was having a ton of issues with mine recently (more than I normally do)- I found out that it was related to using LED bulbs in the opener. One day I had the door open and I tried several times to close it with my car 20' away- I couldn't get it to work. I walked over and unscrewed the 2 bulbs and walked back to my car and it worked fine. I have no idea why but I haven't had a problem since swapping to regular bulbs. I still do find you need to hold the button longer and be in a sweet spot for it to work. In my wife's ESV you touch the button as quick as you would like and it will open the door from a few hundred feet away without ever failing. I suspect the MB system puts out a weaker signal...

Interesting. I do have LED bulbs in all 3 openers but didn't notice a difference between installs. Maybe it's specific to the bulb-brand.
Always have to hold the opener button for much longer than I want (same in our previous 750li) but distance to open is the same between three MB's.

I have 20 high hats in my garage all with LED's. I find that if they are on I sometimes have to hit the button 2-3 times to get it to open. Again- no issues with my wife's truck. It's weird, I'm wondering if they emit some form of interference. And it didn't happen from day one, the bulbs were in there for a while, it just started recently.

Maybe a failing bulb. A quick search did bring up a number of articles about LED bulbs interfering with garage door openers. There is even a garage door LED bulb. Go figure...

Ours are made by Cree.

Wow. I thought I was just going crazy- but it certainly affected it. I'm not sure who made ours. Either sylvania or feit, I probably picked them up at BJ's or Costco. I know the ceiling ones are feit- and they certainly interfere. Like I said though, this is only with my MB's- with my Caddy's there is zero impact...

Good points on the LED light bulbs. Yes, I did find some LED light bulbs could interfere with the garage door opener signals.

I use these LED bulbs in my garage (there are other brands.) They are designed to not interfere with the signals.

Regards,

I think they are designed to withstand the vibration of the motor running in the opener.

See picture below -- It is printed on the box: 'No Interference with Most Major Garage Door Openers.'

It also came with an instruction sheet inside the box, with detailed information.

I used a few of these in my garage, and they indeed did not interfere with my Home Link signals.

And yes, it is also vibration resistant.

Regards,

Follow up from service appointment. No update found on xentry. Great point about LED light bulbs. Will replace with the Genie garage door brand. Forum excellent source of info for problem solving. Again, thanks to all for contributions. Appreciate it.
