Why no Designo black interior?

I know this is not a very interesting post, but until more info comes along on the 2018, I figured what the hay?

As of late, I have been ordering black interiors--mostly because I don't care for the other offerings from MB, but that's another story. My current 2015 S550 has the Exclusive Nappa leather in black and it's very nice, but I would love the higher end Designo Exclusive Semi Aniline interior, I just can't put up with the very light colors in which it is offered. You would think that with black being such a popular interior color, that MB would offer it in their highest trim level. Seems like it would be a very simple way for them to maximize profits. Oh well.

The Exclusive Napa is diamond stitched, but the Designo is more elaborate and luxurious, with the buttons, added tufting, etc.

So there are four leather classes on sclass?

I thought there were 3, Regular, nappa and exclusive nappa/designo. So exclusive nappa and designo are different. Didnt know.

Yeah, BMW also doesn't offer the black leather on the 750 in its upgraded Merino individual leather. Just smoke white, tartufo brown, red, and caramel. I wanted black and would have upgraded my leather as well.

You are correct; the semi anilin leather option happens to be a Designo one and the leather is very nice but in this case it reminds me too much of my grandmothers old sofa. Too old-school for my taste and too overdone.

I think in all-black it would look like an early '80's Cadillac Sedan de Ville

Deep Sea Blue is plenty dark. For about the first year that I owned it, my wife thought that it was black; I guess she isn't very observant!

I believe more colors for the semi-aniline upgraded interior are coming for 2018, but I don't know if black is included. I do know on a custom order, when I did my car, you could not get them, but you can now. I just don't know about what is coming in the standard colors without PA1.

It sure would be great if they offered a much more custom interior option, so one could order the car just the way they want it, without having to jump through all the hoops of a PA1 Special Order. Just make it a $15K or even a $20K option and give the customer a wide range of colors to choose from and "Color Splits" like Bentley offers. Maybe it would add 30 days to an order, but it wouldn't be a "secret" process that most dealers know virtually nothing about and if they do, refuse to talk about it, not to mention the 8+ month wait time.

I realize that I started this thread talking about black interiors, but I go for black, merely because I find the others offered on the S Class to be unappealing. I mean The Crystal Gray and the Designo interiors are beautiful, but way too light to be practical and I don't care for the interiors that are half one color and half black. Oh well.

My favorite is the porcelain black interior

It may show stains easier but if you are leasing who cares. In my opinion that white interior in diamond stitching contrasted with black poplar wood or piano laquer is just gorgeous. My interior is nappa in black with black poplar wood trim. I got a great deal on the lease thanks to a member on this forum hinting me to the right dealer and I didnt mind the black interior.

This is the same exclusive nappa interior available today. The only thing added to the facelift models are the open pore wood options that have been available for years in other models...

It looks as if the newly updated S has a black and brown designo option.
