BMW 7 vs 2015 550 and saw the 2018 560...
Well,
After a few years of driving my BMW 550, I'm back in the hunt.
Honestly thought i was going to go with a 750, but made the mistake of showing the boss the S550 today. There was no debating which way she wanted to go - S550 all the way. Clearly a huge difference when comparing the interior of the 7 vs. the S550. Frankly, looking at both cars side by side, the S550 IMO is proportioned much better as well - the 7er just looks like it has a big *** rear door where as all the doors/panels/body of the benz just flow and form a great looking large sedan.
Anyway - of interest, while at MB Manhattan, I asked who's S-class was under the covers (seemed odd since i was walking around the underground parking area where they store their cars). I was told it was the 2018 that they are "unveiling" on 5/12.
Asked to take a peak, and was told no problem. It is very sharp! Now I was thinking of picking up a loaded (120K MSRP) 2015 w/ appx 20K on it, but seriously considering treating myself to a new one in a few months...who knows at this point! Either way, looks like I'm back to the benz.
Sorry for the long post - if you want to see the 2018, MB Manhattan has it.

Just out of curiosity, what were they asking for the 2015?
IMHO, the only REALLY cool difference in the 2018 is the next level of autonomous driving capabilities. If these matter to you, then I'd say buy a 2018. If you don't think you'll use these features much, then save yourself a boatload of $$$ and buy the used one with 20k of mileage...I bought mine with 21K and it feels, looks and rides like a brand new vehicle.
Good luck with whatever you choose!

Thanks Steve,
I'm a tech nut, so that is the only thing making me hold back right now. The 15 i looked at was a loaded sport pkg car, asking appx 74K (certified).
Visually IMO the difference between a 2015 sport pkg car and the 2018 is so subtle i think only a car enthusiast like myself will really notice.

You are 100% correct on the styling. It's the updated electronics that will be different. Not sure if it's worth $50k....
The tech in my 2015 is really cool. Not sure CarPlay and the updated autonomous features would be worth it.

MBWorld Fanatic!
Both great cars. 3 days ago I traded my 2015 S550 in for a 2017 7 series. I really loved my S, one of the best cars I've ever had but I couldn't get the same car 2 in a row. I find the drive of my new 7 to be amazing. The tech is on a whole new level, it's absolutely fantastic. But either way you can't go wrong...
