Like the author, I'm really ticked off that this car won't be coming to the US for now. By the time it does make its way here, I'll be wanting to wait instead for a W223, or an MB EV.

That said, this is the trend ICE's are going in the near term.

I assume you mean V6. In my case I just hate the idea of buying a slightly inferior engine when a better one is available in other countries. So if I get a 6-cyl S-Class at all, I just don't want to go for an S450.

Reliability is a concern for me. The Audi A8 is also now launching with mild electric hybrid drive trains.I think I'll wait a few years before buying a car with it. Great concept, but lack of real world 'provenness' worries me.

I don't have that faith in Audi/VAG

Interestingly enough, the M256 engine will also be used for AMG models. It'll be called 55AMG again

While I have had my doubts about MB and Direct Injection, their engines have certainly fared a LOT better in their first iteration in series production than Audi/VAG.
So yes, I wholly agree with your statement.

I do not see the big deal about a I6 or V6 S Class... The W116, W126 and W140 for the US Market had it. The W220 had it for a year in 2006 with the S350.

The I6 is a dramatically different engine, something that has never existed before and the future trend of ICE' design. So that's a big deal.
