2108 s63 and the s63 in general
Hello folks ,
while I look to get an s450 4 matic, my friend who loves a more sportier drive is wondering if he should consider a 2018 s63
we both have not driven the s63 yet
few questions for s63 owners
1) how is the handling in corners compared to s550 etc
2) how long is the tire life on s63 due to all that torque, camber etc, our summer rubber on my Porsche lasts about 12-15k miles
3) are these drivable in winter with all seasons ?( that way can use just one type of tire after performance tires are done )
4) anything else we need to consider about S63 before deciding ?

1) how is the handling in corners compared to s550 etc
While it is a bit stiffer, it remains an S-class.
2) how long is the tire life on s63 due to all that torque, camber etc, our summer rubber on my Porsche lasts about 12-15k miles
If tire life is a concern, one should NOT be looking at an S63
3) are these drivable in winter with all seasons ?( that way can use just one type of tire after performance tires are done )
Yes, with <near> extreme care--especially if you know how to drive with the tail hung out.

The tire wear is mainly due to the absolute junk Continental tires they use from factory. The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S's are wearing excellent on my car. I'd say 15k miles, can't really complain about that.

My order just went in for a 2018 s63 sedan. My dad currently has the s63 convertible and it’s absolutely amazing. I taste drove the S560 which has plenty of power but the s63 just brings it to the next level and the handling makes this big sedan not feel as big anymore. Regarding the tires if that’s something your worried about it might not be the best vehicle then as others have said. If you want that extra power, better handling and a great sound exhaust I highly recommend it. Worst part for me right now is the several month wait till I receive mine.

When you’re spending $180,000 on a car ... why on earth do you care about having to replace the front tires at 10,000 miles??? I would be more concerned about the $40,000 depreciation in the first year of ownership lol

That's the word but many owners ask similar questions .I would ask it as well. It's not because of for fear of tires bill it's because I would like to know about lifespan of the tires

I love my 2017 S63 . The only complaint I have is the extreme wear on the front tires , which I blame on the 4matic setup. It has to be that because never before on ANY car I've ever owned have I seen tires chewed up in less than 10,000 miles. Totally ridiculous. Other than that, the car is phenomenal.

For me, it's because there's a good chance they will scratch the rims or there will be a chunk missing somewhere on the rims. I don't care how careful they are, it's hard to not have it happen. So maybe some want a tire where they don't have to worry about that.

Some confusing info in this thread...
Tire wear on a 4matic s550/S63 (S560 to be seen) is somehow due to the camber/toe setup. It had nothing to do with the type of tire even though some may wear faster.
The tire wear is on both outer edges of the front tires even though the car is in alignment spec. I had switched from Pirelli Runflats to Conti DWS 06 I think...

Because good engineering would prevent this problem. I'm paying $150K for a car that is supposed to be better than a $25,000 Toyota in terms of mechanical engineering. I drive almost 95% down the interstate at steady 75mph or so and tires should not wear in only 10Kmiles.

We saw the need therefore to reinstate from the early '90's full/precise adjustment capability to suit all Mercedes models through to 2017.
The K-MAC patented design provides precise, single wrench adjustment - accurately (under load) direct on alignment rack.
CAMBER - allowing to actually change the tire contact angles to resolve costly, premature edge tire wear, improving traction / understeer / oversteer.
CASTER – Correctly resolves steering pull, increases steering response. With better turn in and high speed directional control. Along with anti dive/lift under brake and acceleration.
With "Ongoing adjustment" - catering for day to day commuting encountering high cambered roads, altered height through load carrying or lowering. Fitting wide profile tires or curl knock damage.
FIXING IT RIGHT THE 1st TIME - No more the frustration of ongoing trips to dealers, alignment shops where a "Full Front and Rear Wheel Alignment" is this Toe only adjustment. Or going down the path of constantly changing tire brands!
For the front (only) you can fit inaccurate, basic "one offset position" fluted bolts - but they only offer a minimal 0.3 degrees (1/8") change! With K-MAC Front (and Rear) providing 4 times this amount and precisely adjustable!
Extra feature is the front kit replaces the 4 highest wearing bushings and is 2 axis/mono ball (self aligning) without the OEM oil and air voids. Result is noticeably improved brake and steering response.
Rear kit also provides precise Camber adjustment for the first time (and extra Toe adjustment to compensate for the new Camber facility).
Another popular kit manufactured is uprated replacement bushings (12) for the '6' multi link rear arms. Providing significant improvement to rear end stability. Less twitch/flex, improved traction especially when applying power to lane change / overtake.
S Class (W222):
Front Camber and Caster kit #502816L $545
Rear Camber (and extra Toe) #502226K $480
Rear Bushing kit (12) for the 6 multi link arms #502628K $480
Delivery one kit $30. Each additional kit $20. PayPal, Visa or MasterCard. Toll Free 1888 414 0762 (24/7) dealer inquires welcome.

Yes, reason is there is only front and rear Toe (directional) adjustment. OEM there is no "Camber" or "Caster" adjustment facility which is essential to change time contact angles!

Thanks for the hope of getting happy with my only problem with my S63AMG. Which part # will I need to fix my front wheels only. I have absolutely no problem with the rear tire /wheels at all. Just the front. I see where you show for a W222 but will the AMG need a different set of part #'s for the camber and caster issues?
