Anyone have post warranty issues?
For those of you with it 2014 or 2015 who have gone beyond 50,000 miles or 80,000 km have you had any problems ?
some people say you're better off investing $5000 in the stock market and rolling the dice for two years vs. an aftermarket warranty...

Those individuals are dumb. Buy EDW. I don't even know why this is a debate. These cars aren't Lexis, and even then, I'd buy an EDW.

Not sure what to think on this. I had a 2012 W221 that I racked up 50K+ miles and MB extended warty and the claims were around 2K in my 3 years of ownership. This was on top of new tires and brakes but you pay for those regardless. Still on the fence, the warranty is more like insurance against a remote chance something catastrophic happens. Grenading a tranny or other major component can be very spendy.

I'm on board with your line of thinking with the following caveat. I think the Mercedes can insure the car cheaper than you because they get the parts and labor at cost, so there may be in effect some discount when you get the coverage through them.

For about 25 years I have been buying S Classes and other MB cars. Most of my MBs have been purchased new with putting on between 30k and 200k in mileage on each one. I have never purchased an extended warranty. As a CPA I have calculated the cost of warranty “insurance” and the cost of paying for my repairs out of pocket. I know I am not dumb based on the numbers so it would be wise to not make blanket statements that people are dumb for not buying extended warranties.
If you are a long time purchaser of expensive luxury autos you should do the long term calculations. Yes the warranty might save your bacon now and then but over the long term the warranty insurance companies win. I would rather say people may prefer extended warranty or some may not but to say one way the people are dumb is just not correct. As long as one makes a completely informed decision based on their own unique facts than either way could work.

I guess it all depends on how long you want to keep the car. In my case, I plan to purchase ( not lease) and intend to drive the car minimum 7 years hence I will purchase 7/100K MB extended warranty. It makes perfect sense to me @ $3950.

A decision of buying extended warranty or not has something to do with the element of risk taking. Some people do not want to risk an unexpected costly repair whereas some may be willing to take the risk by forgoing the warranty cost ($3950 in your case). Knowing yourself and your financial resources is key to making a good decision for yourself.

I don't have a huge sample size to work with, but going off my dad's 2011 S550, with ~140k on the clock, I believe he's spent ~$1,500 or so on repair-type items. Always dealer-serviced.
In my stable, I had a 1994 Q45 with 100k extended warranty and used it heavily (3 transmissions, sold it when it wanted a 4th). My 2004 M45 went to 225k with about $8k in repairs, with $3800 being AC repairs, $800 towards tranny repairs, and $400 each time a headlamp blew. I sold my '15 E350 lemon before the warranty expired.
How has the car performed under warranty? If you've got a dog, dump it or insure (extended warranty) it. If you get a strong one, keep it.

Can you give me the e-mail of the salesman that provided you with the $3,950 quote. I've been quoted $3,595 for 7/75k, but yours sounds low for 7/100k. hopefully your salesguy can come in lower on 75k. Thanks!
