missing hood emblem
so my dad noticed his emblem was gone out of the blue. I looked at the car and there didnt seem to be any signs of damage and the silver bezel was in place but the emblem was gone and under the hood the part underneath was gone too, i tried looking to see if it fell down infront of radiator in the bumper but couldnt see anything
if someone was to have stolen it, they couldnt just pull up and clip a wire could they, i pullled on my w212 and moms w221 and i dont think they have that mechanism any more. But u would have to go from under.
the hood has clear bra for 2 yrs now and there was no signs of damage.....any ideas

Unfortunately, regulations has required hood ornaments to detach very easily for greater pedestrian survival. The new G-wagen side marker will be quite easy to break.

Some scumbag tried to yank on my ornament, but couldn’t get it off...
But seriously, I had to have mine replaced just last month. Only cost $80 for the dealer to repair/replace it, however the star was stlll attached - so they may have only replaced the linkage that it attaches to - not the star as well.

May be a detachable hood emblem would be better solution if it exists for MB .I know Arden makes hood emblems for Jaguar , more pricey but would give the owner a piece of mind

About 25 years ago, I had a hood rat try to steal the Star off my 240D when I was stopped at a red light in the 'hood. He was strutting across the street, one hand holding his pants up, the other on his crotch, until he got near my car at which point he put his hand on the Star. For some reason my foot slipped off the clutch at that exact moment. What a terrible coincidence. True story.

FWIW I heard a friend had his ornament stolen from an E and it cost hi. $300 to replace. I looked on eBay, about. $30. You can choose the star or the flat emblem. Open the hood. Use needle nose pliers, 1/4 turn to remove old. Pop new in, 1/4 turn, locked in place. 5 minutes tota time, with 1 minute to pop the hood. Unless rusted, then wd40.
i’d wager Your emblem experienced fatigue or rust and broke off? Then again, if missing maybe not. I’ve heard of folks using them as jewelry.
i was worried about mine at the car wash, fella said not a problem (and hasn’t ‘t been), he said to watch out for water getting underneath ( rust ).
Good luck!
