Wind Noise of A/C System

I have a 2018 S450. The noise level of the air blowing from the vents is louder than I would have expected -- especially from the center dash vent (the one just below the Nav screen). When the fan is on Level 1, it's OK. Level 2 is audible. Level 3+ is kinda noisy. Is this normal?

They are noisy on full speed, I don't know about 3+, that seems low. Are the vents fully open? I have had cases where a customer complains of a whistle from the a/c vents, and it's just the noise from the vents being partially closed at high fan speeds. Worth checking before your dealer visit that all of them are open fully.

Yeah, this has been an issue with MB models for many years. I had to get used to it when I switched from Lexus, were it was not a problem.

Did you get any further with this.

I'm in the first summer with my 217. The fans are always audible, and loud!

I haven't driven enough w222s to know if it's "normal" but I cant imagine the center vents are twice as loud on my c217 as they are on my W205 c class!

If you close the center vents it's quieter but still quite audible.

Ask it for airflow from vents and floor.

Even on high speed I don’t find noise from airflow to be annoying. Sure is less a racket than common ‘economy cars.’

Even Lexus is noisy compared with the Rolls I had years ago. It would move a lot of air through the round vents too.

Yes I've noticed by turning off the center vents and setting diffused, it's much quieter, but still louder than even other models, or even my w221.

In any case, I did wonder if there was a miscalibration of the flap doors or something, I may do some testing.

Do a calibration yes. I've seen that in Xentry.

Its not a "racket" but it is louder than in other cars. Normal.

Some noise is normal, but excessive airflow noise especially from the center vent could mean a few things: a cabin air filter needing replacement, debris in the ducts, or a blend door issue. Check the filter first; if that’s clean, a dealer or shop can inspect the system for obstructions or faults. S-Class should be pretty quiet, so if it’s really loud, something might be off.

Hmmmm..... My 221 S-65 made noticeably more noise with A/C working hard then the 222 car does.

I let the HVAC system do it's magic on 'Auto.' It sure does get to work at it when we see 115-120 here in the desert.

Good advice.
