Why isn't 360 cam standard???
Have a 2018 loaner GLE, which I don't like. Looks like the a GL had a bowl movement and this is what popped out
Anyway, I don't like it, but then put it in reverse and the coolest thing happened with this top view camera that looks like google earth view! Super cool and very accurate. I was blown away. I'm still trying to find out where they are hiding the cameras to do this! I asked friend who has a 2015 S that stickered for $122k, if he liked that feature, and he said his doesn't have it, it's an option. I can't believe this. I know Mercedes is all about safety, but I just figured this one would be standard. This little GLE doesn't even have the push to start option, but has these unreal 360 cameras.

Simple, it’s all about the money. If it was standard the list price would be higher and a lower list price gets people thinking the car is a relative bargain. They pit a few unrelated options in packages so if you want one feature you must pay for the others as well. It’s a great way to force the price up while maintaining a low list price.
the cameras are in the bottom of the side mirrors like down firing eyeballs and a door in the front grill pops open. The rear cam is above the license plate. They are stitched together by a computer in the car to look seamless. It’s a great feature in tight places.

Surround camera is standard on the S-class. It just wasn’t in prior years.
BMW cameras are very cool but those features will likely never be used in real life. Somewhat like the auto park features...

to address the OP question, the 360 isnt standard because like all cars they are "premium" options, and for mercedes, people paying 80-120k for a s550 isnt enough for them to preload the car with great options. the GLS450/550 have them as a standard option, why? i have no clue. However, the standard 180 isnt the worst thing its only useful if parking isnt your thing and you need views all around your car to see what your doing.

i laughed about the poop comment.
i'd wager your loaner DOES have keyless go - they just remove it when they loan the car - i had a loaner GLC and begged for keyless go - when they said they didn't have one, i asked them to take it out of my S (which they delivered without the keyless go button) - he said they couldn't get my S down from the lift so no keyless go - which i found very annoying.
cameras are typically under the mirrors, i've had it on my past 2 BMWs and now of course the S - it's a necessity to me when parking especially in lots to make sure i'm within the lines - i try to bias to the left - there's ALWAYS a driver, only sometimes a passenger for the adjacent parked car...
