Door Handle recessed lights
How many out there have one or more of these (very hard to see) handle iights NOT working. They are supposed to come on at night when you grab the handle (any other time ??) The passenger side on my 2015 S550 seem to work but the driver's door handle does not and the passenger (same side) one just blinks on and off. I believe I could get the dealer to fix this (under warranty) but do they have to tear the door apart and possibly cause new problems.....I don't want that !!

They fail all the time, we are constantly replacing them on 205s, less on 222s it seems. It does require opening the door, but that's not really an issue for any competent tech.
What I don't like, the new ones often don't match the color of the old ones. So many times we will replace the one that's out, then have to replace the other 3 because they don't match anymore. Takes way too much time and doesn't pay well at all.

I installed these on a CLS 550 and they were cool, but the puddle lights on the S550 are smaller and seem trickier to mess with. Any thoughts or suggestions ? I think they can be found on E-Bay.

These shadow lights are just as easy to install as mine E63. Used a flat Wedgy tool to snap the OEM off and the new ones just popps back in.
As for the door handle lights. I would just let the dealer fix/replace it. That’s what our warranty is for and if they mess up which I highly doubt, they’ll have to fix it. I looked at it this PM and it’s not something I’m incline to do.

It would defeat the purpose if the interior dome light would need to be on for the shadow light to illuminate in my opinion.
Easy swap.

Yeah.......I thought that the car had 100% LED lights ? So are these handle lights LEDs and if so they should not be going out so soon !!

I am guessing it is all of the abuse that the fixture takes from the door slamming shut. Probably a design flaw.

My 550 is black so I never really noticed the rear passenger side being out... I guess since they go out all the time, I'll see how long it takes for all the others to die.

Can you please provide me with a copy of your Work order, or Invoice and/or Dealer that covered it under CPO. My local dealer stated they will not cover it. Lights are not covered under CPO. You can PM me or any copy of your documentation would help. Had all 4 lights fail in 4 years, 3 under B2B, last under MB Extended warrantee not covered. They want $275- to replace it...
Thanks

I don't have a copy of that yet. But.... I had just purchased the car and it was one of the items they agreed to fix soo.. It might not actually be covered under the CPO thing.. Might have just been them agreeing to fix it. I'll let you know when I get a copy of the WO.

2014 S550 4Matic and 1968 MB 230
My 2014 S550 CPO had 5 of 6 LED Approach lights go bad. 3 exterior door handle lights and both puddle lamps near bottom of side view mirror housings. Of course this was to be fixed during a prepaid service visit. The Tech input "auto lock unlock inoperable" (in error) and described how all lights were functioning.
Vehicle was returned, I found all lights still inoperable, called Tech and I had to explain what and where the puddle lamps were!!
The only good news is my dealer covered it under CPO. ALL door panels must be removed to access these LED's. Rather sad that their tech's have not only poor listening skills, but also don't know their vehicles. When removing the panels, it's easy for them to break a large white/ main clip near edge of panel. These had to be ordered and shipped from Germany. After 8 days, I finally had my vehicle back.
