S63 AMG with low mileage

Hi everyone,

I bought an S560 a few months ago for my wife and have decided to buy a used S63 AMG for myself. Not sure if it makes sense though! Anyway, I was looking at some inventories and could be able to locate a couple surprisingly all of them are low mileage! I'm curious why these cars have not been driven a lot! Is it because of S63 AMG is not a good choice for the everyday commute ( about 15 miles one way )? I am a first-time AMG buyer and need some advises making a right decision. The one I found is a 2016 model with 7100 miles on it.
Thank you in advance.

They are fine cars but I would take one for an extended test drive first. Prior to MY18, those cars feature the 7 speed MCT transmission which is known to be rough-shifting at city traffic.
This is more or less intentional to make it a bit more sporty but also part of the multi-clutch design.

In in terms of mileage, this is normal as they are typically are part of a larger stable...

My impression is that these cars are generally a 3rd. or 4th. Car in the garage, not used as a daily driver, thus the low mileage. One has to keep in mind that the average American has a hard time paying off a 40k automobile and when one gets to this level you are in a different territory.

For Maintenance, check with your dealer how much Pads and Rotors would be when ready... Make sure you are ready for the answer. Comes with the Territory…

I owned a 2008 and a 2012 before I got my 2018 S63. They have all been excellent cars for the city, country, highway, whatever. No rough shifting at all. Just be sure to drive the car you end up liking for 45 minutes before plunking down money on it and get a PPI for it if it's not a MB dealer if you can. If not, just go for it anyway if you have a good feeling about it. I have loved each of the ones I've owned immensely and may never sell my current 2018, I like it that much.

You'll love it. Do a big test drive and get a good extended warranty if you plan to keep it over 50,000 miles. Mine is covered up to 100,000 miles. At that point, I'm not sure what I will do. I was going to trade this month for an Audi but decided I've grown more and more attached to my current S63 and will hold off for another year or two before trading for something else. Be ready for new brake pads at 35,000 miles and do not let them make you replace rotors as this is not necessary. My rotors still looked fantastic and all I needed was new pads....$750 installed. Other than that and a few very minor issues not worth mentioning, my S63 is doing very well and I enjoy driving it everytime I get in it .

18 AMG GTC and 22 F150 Limited. Past owner 16 Maybach, 17 Brabus Smartcar, 06 Ford E150, and 22 G70
When we were looking to replace the Corvette we were looking for a SL 65, 911 Turbo S, Jag F type SVR, and finally the AMG GTC. on auto trader, ebay, and cars.com we found a LOT of fairly new cars wtih very low miles that people barely drove. Perhaps the people that buy these new work so much they dont have time to drive.... Who knows........ I just know we got a 2018 GTC with 2000 miles on it like new for 40,000 off the MSRP. The car was owned by a CEO of some tech company in California.

Those genuine AMG models tend to depreciate a lot quicker than their non AMG S Class siblings , it may be a good thing or not depending on the buyer's perspective . Other than that , I don't think you should be thinking twice before going for it . Maintenance is slightly higher than non AMG Sedans but it's not like Porsche vs Volkswagen in that department

I've never understood why cars that are more rare depreciate quicker than more readily available models.

But every single car named in this thread isn't that rare... There will be a replacement, there will be something faster, something more luxurious, etc.. AMG is pumping them out as quick as possible.

And on top of that; maintenance, insurance, mileage, etc... The car market is pretty bizarre, but unless you got a real enthusiast's car or something historically significant; its gonna depreciate.

Heck I’d just think about a new S560 for you too. They are real nice cars and 463 hp why do you need more. It’s not like either is really a sports car. The 18/19s are nice. I’m thinking about one eventually. Have a 2015 s550 now.

I use my S63 as a daily driver. I love it. I want to enjoy it every day not just the weekends. No issues.

I own a 2011 and I’m city driving it can get a little jerky. But you can also feel the car wants to run. It has a wet clutch design in it from what I was told and researched but I love the car.
