This is a Bluetooth SAP V4 cradle (which can have its own SIM card) so it can be used as a build-in phone without needing a smart phone.
This wasn't available in the US on the W222, but in Europe/other parts of the world the S-Class is available with dedicated phones build-in (hands-free or rear seat handsets), so I assume that is what the OP has.

That app only works for 2014 & early 2015 models. I think the following app only works on iPads (no iPhone). It's called "Comand Touch". Since I only have my phone on me I can't check if it's available in the US app store. If not, you could still create a European Apple ID if needed.

Another interesting thing is in Europe, if I am correct, you can connect the car to your Phones Data plan, no need to add a data plan to the car.

Here is a link. Did you use the app store on an iPad? It won't show on any other device. Unfortunately I can't tell which countries app store carries it (German at least I assume).

I have a 2014... I just got off with Apple Support, they are unable to check if the app exists. They said I would have to Open up a Overseas account, have a credit card and even if the app existed in Europe, there is no way to use it here unless I had an old iPhone etc. that I would keep in the car for such use.... Any ideas / suggestions are welcome if a way exists. Anyone out of the country that can confirm if the app exists.
