CPO S63 Vs Brand New S560
Hi everyone,
I have a friend who has decided to pull the trigger and get an S Class. He was asking me if he has to lease a brand new S560 or finance a CPO S63? I told him I will share this with my friends in forum and let you know what everbody thinks!
Thank you in advance.

If so, that would be my choice, couple months later both cars will be "used" but S63 is on another level totally.

Eh, I'd feel funny about buying a used AMG, but that's just me. Who knows how it was driven, cared for........if it was tuned, romped on everyday etc.
I'd go for the new car.
I'd go for the new car.

I guess the big question, is how does your friend drive? The current S560 is very quick and very fast, at least IMO. My personal opinion, is that the extra power in the S63 is virtually worthless, unless you A. take the car to the track, B. live someplace like Germany, or C. wish to drive way beyond traffic laws in the U.S.A. In addition, the S560 offers a much smoother, more comfortable ride. Personally, I’d take the 560 over the 63, even if they were the same price.

Id finance the s63 handsdown. much more exclusive, better int without upgrading. If I did it again Id prb have financed an s63.

Finding a clean, no nonsense, no story, no issue, S63 is a rare find. I would be VERY cautious of an S63 as stated above, how it was cared for and maintained. Not a good car to have issues with. Every one I looked at had a story. Youtube is a real eyeopener on how some treat leased cars! There is one guy on there with a new S63 doing donuts on what looks like a dried lake full of dust and dirt beating the car! Every Mercedes I have owned that has been a great car, started off life new, adult owned, properly maintained, and usually owned over leased. Properly taken cared of in the beginning has a lot to do with longevity with these cars I have found. There are always lemons, but for the most part that is true.

As you didn’t mentioned the year of the S63 and what your friend wants out of the S class. To me the answer is easy. I wanted speed and confort so I got the S63 now if I just want confort, then the S560 is the way to go.
As you have mentioned, the CPO S63 will be a purchase vs a brand new S560 that will be leased. Depending on the year of the S63, someone already taken the biggest depreciation value hit of the first 2 year so I would go with the S63. Also keep in mind all the bugs of the S63 should have been addressed now.

I'd go with the new S560 over the S63...why? Like everyone has pointed out, you really don't know how the S63 was maintained or taken car of. It could have been beaten down and misused on the track for all you know. Two really totally different cars, so hard to judge. Just my 2 cents.

depends if you find a flawless s63 w super low miles? why not? plenty of garage queens out there too. Most of the cpos are good clean cars.

I honestly don’t believe anyone even on this or the S63 forum tracks their S63. If someone wanted to track their AMG, it will be most likely a E63s or C63, IMHO.
Again it depends on the need of your friend, my S63 is a fast luxury boat.

Even very rich guys track cars with cheaper consumables-- tires, brakes, repairs. Most are Porsche-Corvette, some BMW. The Mercedes guys track the C63, AMG GT, and we have one older guy with an SLS...who tracks it twice a month!
There are many misused AMG cars out there returned to the dealer to be CPO'd. Thats why I would be cautious of any used performance car.

I have owned S Class cars for over 25 years with this being my first S63 AMG. So far based on my experience, I can’t imagine going back to an S560 after buying this S63 AMG—it is an awesome car.

I agree. The 2018 and 2019 S63 are just unbelievably awesome cars especially compared to the ‘17 and earlier W222 S63. My ‘19 S63 in comfort feels like my ‘16 S550 4matic. Put the facelift S63 in sport plus and it is a high performance monster. I am a middle aged CPA and financial advisor and I cannot imagine tracking my $186k ‘19 S63. It is to damn nice to beat it on a track. So if one buys a used S63 find one that has been driven like I drive mine—a middle aged guy that likes to step on the gas once in awhile to hear the exhaust pop but won’t beat the heck out of it. In fact when I recently did European Delivery on my S63 I was afraid to drive the S63 higher than 85 mph and 4500 rpm for the first 1000 miles (there is a break in period for S63s to go no higher than 85 mph and 4500 rpm) on the Autobahn. Some people might not care to follow the break in period on the Autobahn but I religiously followed the break in instructions—how many people do that I don’t know but I sure did.

Someone said you should buy it if you track, nothing more is wrong then that, it would be a waste and idiotic use of that car since it was never made for it, too heavy and luxurious.
That poster also mentioned that you could use it only on autobahn or if you plan to break the US traffic laws.
I drive on autobahn in rentals but here in US you just take your chances, I don't know many people who adhere to our idiotic laws, 90% not reasonable and too draconian.
In Chicago area, I-294 has 55 limit, I don't see any semi trucks or even Priuses doing less then 80.
S63 lets you waft effortlessly, makes driving at these speeds much easier and dispatches 99% of other cars with ease (when you need to change the lane and a pesky Honda speeds up to prevent you from doing this, just because he doesn't like your car)

Agree completely, once you go 63 you will never go lower, I would rather have it used (if can't get a new one) then the regular airport taxi.

A little hard on absent?
Personally I would never call an S560 an airport taxi as the S560 is one awesome car. I also have to laugh about the airport taxi comment since when I was in Germany in November on the day before I picked up my S63 from the factory I had an S Class taxi pick me up from the MB Museum and take me to my hotel. I had such a great conversation with the taxi driver about his S Class that he offered to pick me up the next morning from the hotel in Stuttgart and drop me off in Sindelfingen at the MB factory—of which he did. He loved his S Class taxi just like we enjoy our cars here on the forum. It was great to have an S Class taxi in Germany. Just thought this might make you laugh Stream since we know all these cars have Pano roofs and no spare tires. And oh we know you like “sporty” AMG S Classes!!!

I drive in LA about 2k miles/year so am a little bit familiar with traffic and enforcement there.
We all know how nasty some other drivers can become, especially if we attempt to go a little bit faster then them or God forbid try to accelerate to get in front of some slow poke when the 3 lanes change into 2.
An S63 makes driving easier and allows you to compromise less then when driving less powerful car, you know it and I know it.
Sorry about the taxi comment but it is simply an acknowledgment of fact, I get picked up at LAX and ORD (every month) in a S560 or 450 from Carey Limousine (they have a large fleet of them serving the airports).
Lastly, there is a "Captain America"
There was an Opel Kapitan (discontinued in 1970)
There is a mountain El Capitan,
A restaurant near Chicago with that name,
A grocery shopping app called "getcapitan"
a few others too but no "Capitan America" that I know off
Oh, one more thing, I wouldn't want anyone getting hard on me, I don't swing that way.......

There's no way we could decide for anyone else. It's way too personal. But for me, I'd ONLY want an S63. I don't care if it goes faster than an S560, I simply wanted it since it's more exclusive, that's all. I love the rear badging and the interior parts that say AMG. So cool. People fawn over my car including myself. It's rarer. I like rarer. Also, if you get a used one, it could be just about as nice as a new one. I baby mine and try to keep it looking brand new. I never abuse it, ever.

You are so right—what a powerful statement. AND then it becomes YOUR choice based on some driving experience.
After I rented a 2017 S63 in Germany for 10 days about 2 years ago is when I knew I would buy the S63 but did not know exactly when since I ordered a fully loaded 2016 S550 4matic in the summer of 2015 and I was not ready to part with that car yet. When the facelift 2018 model came out I knew I would order the facelifted S63 of which I did order a 2019 model S63.
Absolutely love the 2019 S63 but would not have purchased it if it were not for the driving of the 2017 S63 on the Autobahn for 10 days.
