Even Sears was sued for selling 8 yr old "new" tires. Pretty common on Ebay. They prey on peoples ignorance of tire safety. Industry standard is no good after 6 years. I just emailed Continental this week about the spare tire I just bought. (almost 10 yrs old but new) They explain 10 years is max?? Only manufacture I have ever seen with that number. But they have lawyer speak of condition and environment also to get 10 years.

Its her car, def has curbed most of the wheels! Think I found a good tire listed this morn at 8/32 and appears date code isnt bad. so that should solve that prblm and ill see if my currents still have the road hazard warty.

Are the exact part numbers listed for the 2 types (mini from AMG) of spare tires that will fit the W222 as well as the Jack Kit? Lots of used on eBay with unknown dates posted. I would not mind purchasing new.
Do you have to swap tires if you have the staggered setup?

Remember that if you buy used, you need to get the special lug nuts that go with the mini spare tire.

I think that the standard nuts will fit the AMG S63 spare because this spare is not stamped steel and is much thicker. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. The AMG spare looks nice but seriously.. for temporary use, I care not about cosmesis.

Have you guys considered the compact spare that must be inflated that comes in the e63/cls63. Both of mine have it. Considering getting one with the air pump.

Does this fit in the E63 trunk correctly (under the floor)?

Do the AMGs come with a spare?

This is true but would be fine IMO on a RWD car.

Streamline’s, i know you said the W221 spare will work with the W222. I see them on ebay for sale. I believe i saw you say on another post that the factory lugs will now work with the spare? If so, where do you get the lugs that will work. None of the spares i see on eBay come with lug nuts (just the tire itself)

thanks

As you can see in the photo of mine, the lugs are still shrink wrapped to the wheel. This is how it came in a new W221. I'm sure the lugs should be available from any MB dealer.

Makes sure you specify the spare you have from what car. The stamped steel rim as shown above takes those special shorter lug bolts as shown. You cannot use the longer stock lug bolts of of your stock rims. BUT if you have the mag aluminum rim as the S63 221 does, it will use the stock lug bolts that are on your car no need for different lugs I am told at my dealer. I just bought a 2009 S63 mag rim spare. Dealer explained the 2009 only had two lug bolts listed one was stock and the other was shorter for stamped rim spare. ?? I will be actually putting the spare on soon as a trial fit to make sure there are no issues if I ever get a flat.

Rule of trailering is if you don't have a spare.....you'll get a flat. (Happened to me twice when I gambled and lost within 2 yrs)

If you have a spare it will never be needed! ( bought two spares because I was trailering interstate) haven't had a flat in 4 years!!

I also carry a tire plug kit (reamer, plug inserter, rubber plugs, and a small tube of rubber cement) and a 12V tire pump. This allows me to repair the tire immediately at the roadside. Years ago, I used to be in the camp that a proper nail puncture repair includes both plug and the placement of a rubber repair patch on the inner surface of the tire. I am now in the camp that these plugs, when properly placed, rarely ever fail or pop out and will outlast the life of the tire without having to perform the inside rubber patch. Even if the plug pops out, you're left with another slow flat. I don't see how a plug is at all dangerous unless you're trying to repair a sidewall puncture (which is a no-no).

I've never had a blow-out and any flat I've ever experienced has been a slow leak from a nail puncture.

Caveat: My W222 wheels are 19-inchers and I will never ever buy a car with an oversized 21 or 22 inch wheel unless that is the only option available. I always go with the smallest wheel option because 1) better ride quality 2) much lower likelihood of tire failure.

I have a 2014 E350 with a spare. I have used it twice in 5 years. Each time, I called for service (MB or AAA work.) the spare allowed me to drive home and deal with it - schedule the repair.

WIth the run flats, I would have not made it home (too far and too major of a tire failure). I would have had to have the car pulled onto a flat bed, and been driven to a dealer, and then hopefully, get someone to drive me home. I like more independence, not less.

No spare, no buy for me.

Really, the lack of a spare is a major problem with current MB cars. However, as much as I hate not having a spare--or a proper place to put one--the rest of the car more than compensates for this issue, so I continue to drive MB.

A car
Well, the MY20 Genesis has ditched the spare tire too.

I believe the only flagship that will still have a spare is the A8.
