2015 S550 Bluetooth Problem

Very annoying intermittent feature with the car’s Bluetooth. This only happens for phone calls. Perhaps 25% of the time when I receive a call or place a call the person cannot hear me as if the microphone was mute (it is not, button and light is not on for mute microphone) and then hangs up. When I call back from the car phone or they call back and I pick up from the car phone, 50% of the time it is mute. It may also go mute randomly in the middle of a phone call.

To fix this, it may just start working on it’s own or a sure fire way is to transfer call to phone/speakerphone and then back to the car and it works.

iPhone XS Max, running newest software, problems started a year ago when I got the car. Car maps not updated since 2015.

would an update help? Suggestions? Car is out of warranty

Other car brands have reported Apple CarPlay issues with calls because the iPhone's audio setting is incorrect during the call (set to phone, not bluetooth). This may or may not be the same problem you're having but it's worth checking to see if it's the same cause for you. The next time it happens to you, check your phone and see if the Speaker icon is set to Bluetooth (correct) or iPhone (incorrect). The other party can't hear you if the phone is incorrect set to the iPhone speaker vs. the bluetooth connection.

It probably doesn't help a lot but I have a '15 S550 and the iPhone 7 Plus and have not seen this behavior. Not exactly your setup but very similar. Latest IOS updates on the phone. It is certainly possible that the Bluetooth stack is broken in some way on your phone that causes this but I'm doubtful. I'm guessing an issue with the car somewhere. Does the voice command system work reliably? Maybe an issue with the mic or its connection that is triggered by bumps in the road?

My 1/50th of a dollar.

It's not the CarPlay that's important but the bluetooth audio setting not being correct, which could also explain your problems.

You can get CarPlay installed and it works great. Search GTACarkits, it’s the best money I’ve ever spent for an upgrade on my 2015 Mercedes s550.
