Do any of you single guy S Class owners think about a new M5 Competition instead?

I kind of care, but how much? Would this M5 be a better image and fit for me now? I'm 58, divorced 9 years and ... looking for the next Mrs, furiously.
I don't know, probably not. Right? I'm a Mercedes S63 guy now instead of a BMW guy (I had 8 BMW's before my 3 S63's - a 1974 2002, 1988 535is, 1991 M5, 1995 540i, 1991 850i, 1995 740i, 2001 740 Sport, another 2001 740i Sport.
Do I go back to BMW now? Ummm, I guess not, but this car was so ME! They are about $139k new.
Anyone else feel like this sometimes? Anyone else lust over a more sporty 4 door of some kind? Or this one?

The interior is pretty decent but lower-end, not special and the same as a typical 5 series... On the exterior I find the car quite tame looking and once again, a bit too close to a regular 5 series. The E63s sounds much better than the M5 and the AMG's stand out more from the regular E-Class.
On the plus side, the suspension is softer on the M5 in comfort mode and my wife would appreciate that. The M5 comp is a touch faster than the E63s but they are so close that it's a drivers race.

I don't think any M5/M8 is in the same league as a S63 Sedan/Coupe, the AMG price points are obviously higher and you're getting a lot more luxury and higher material quality in the Benz. I was hoping the new 8 series would be more competitive with the S but alas it was just a rehash of the 6 series. I'm still waiting on a proper replacement for the epic E31/M850Csi !

Look at a nice used one unless you have a quarter million to burn. That's what I did a year ago and scooped up a 2015 S65 with MSRP of $240k for under six figures.
When you quit looking furiously, you will find your opportunities are enhanced.

The one thing that is worth pointing out in this thread that while the S63 is at a different level than the M5, so is the M5 to the S63 in terms of performance.
B7, 760li, S63, S65 (sedans/coupes/cabs) are all sporty luxury cars and geared towards that audience.
M5, M8 GC, A7 RS, E63s, GT 4doors are all performance sedans with some luxurious bits added in. And while these size-wise placed at the mid-level, they are the highest performing cars of the line-up. People looking for a performance sedan will likely not consider a S63 or B7. To big, too heavy and to some extend, too slow

There is a lot to like about the Alpina B7. BMW has stepped up the luxury feel with the interior. I also appreciate that you don't see many B7's on the road. At least not in my part of the country. Tuff choice between S63 and a B7. (first world problem??)
I don't think you'll find a large group of S class owners who would consider a M5. It just doesn't overlap in my mental venn diagram of these two cars.

My current daily is a 63 though, simply because of my constant frustration with absolute lack of traction the S65 suffers from on any but perfect, clean and smooth surfaces and such thing does not exist in Chicago.
Add rain or a bit of snow and the car is impossible to use as it was designed to be.
I was hoping MB would finally make an AWD S65 (that would be an absolute monster) but it is not to be, we are getting a hybrid replacement instead (S73)

In May of 2018 I did the BMW car control school in South Carolina and drove all the M cars on the BMW Performance Center track including the M760 v12. I considered the ‘19 E63S and the ‘19 S63. Since I daily drive the car back and forth to the office and shuttle clients in my car, there was not a question for me that the S63 was the way to go. Of course for my daily driver I have had an S Class for over 25 years. The ‘18 and ‘19 S63 is a bit different than prior S63’s It has that wonderful balance between a luxury car and enough performance to satisfy me for a daily driver. My S63 does 3.29 seconds in the 0-60 times and is just a beast. Of course the ‘18/‘19 E63S is just a bit faster but the suspension (for me) is just too harsh for a daily driver. After the AMG Driving Academy Advance class in May 2019, I am now thinking about an AMG GTR as a track car but certainly NOT to replace the S63. I am planning on doing the 2020 AMG Driving Academy Pro Plus class to qualify for an SCCA car racing license. I must be going back to my child hood (so my wife says) since I used to race motorcycles (in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Montana, Wyoming) growing up in North Dakota.
A number of people I know that race cars drive the S63 as a daily driver. I found out when I spoke with Reini Renger (head of the AMG Driving Academy Worldwide) at Road Atlanta in May that he drives an S63 when he is in the US as well (his S63 and mine were parked close to each other and both were the same color in Ruby Black). Again the S63 just has the wonderful balance with luxury and performance. In my opinion, there is no car in the market that has that delicate balance between performance and luxury dialed in as well as the S63 does.
