Ferrari to S- Class, what do I need to know?

Brand new to this forum so I apologize for all the rookie questions.

Most likely going to get rid of my Ferrari 360 for more of a more family friendly car. Love the look of the s class but have no clue what to look for, desired options, models etc adn would appreciate any of your insight or if you could help with some links of some other similar questions.

Not looking for anything specific in an s class besides the basics. DOnt care much for performance as I've had my thrills in the past. I prefer 2014 and up. What should I look for? pros? cons? common problems?

Sincerely appreciate your input.

2019 S63 4Matic+, 2018 E400 Cabrio, wardens car.
Lots of directions this could go. I have a 2015 4matic with sport package that strikes a nice balance between performance and luxury. A big body Benz is dramatically different from a Ferrari though. IMO nothing cruises down the freeway like an S class though, they are just awesome cars and pretty reliable. I have 38K trouble free miles on mine and I have only done brakes, tires, and other consumables. I am on my second one, having owned a 2012 prior and the MY14 and up are a big upgrade so I would only look at a 14 or newer. In 18 they did get a new tranny/motor combo and a minor facelift but other than that the car has changed little from 2014. I would suggest you find a nice low mileage 2015 or newer with the following options, AMG Sport Pack, Exclusive Napa Leather, Drive Assist, Comfort Package and maybe HUD. If you have people in the back the heated and cooled adjustable rear seats are nice as well. Burmester sound is OK but I added a sub to my system as the stock Burmester has the subs in the front footwells and the low end is very anemic if you are into music quality. If you want performance closer to your 360 you could go for an S63, that is a beast that will embarrass just about anything you will see out in the wild, risks of spendy repairs go up substantially though on those cars used, plus with a used example you never know how it was treated. I would look for a CPO model as well.

S600
Look for 4 letters after the "S"
And those letters are "-600"

With the V12, you get almost every option Merc had on offer.

I've read so many conflicting opinions on this. Is it your opinion that the quality is the same between radio, disc, and streaming?

I’m sorry, but I just don’t get it. WHERE do you guys actually USE the “performance” above what a standard S560 puts out? On city streets? In your residential neighborhood? These are big, huge SALOONS, that were designed to carry passengers in sumptuous comfort. Why someone would want to destroy the ride quality and turn this luxury cruiser into a monster, is just beyond me. Why not have a nice S560 sedan and a little AMG GT for when you feel the need to go crazy? More often than not, when I see a S63 or 65, I can see the irritation on the other driver’s face, as we both sit in bumper to bumper traffic.

The sound quality is deffinitely not as good with low bit rate such as sirrus. On the other hand anything with a decent bit rate makes the system sound truly amazing. I stream pandora or sirrus off my phone and it sounds great. MY AMG GTC also has the upgraded Burmeister and it sounds great as well. MY house has a very nice sound system that I spend a lot of money on.

With that said the Maybach 3d system is truly the most amazing sound system I have ever herd. IT does not have the bass my home system has but aside from that its stunning.

I would order a s450 with the 3d system first on my order sheet and I dont give a dam if it costs 6000+ dollars. It sounds that good.

Agree with you absolutely 100%.
My "65" comment was to "600" with a sort of "tongue in cheek".
S63 is an absolute overkill vs 560 but we buy them because we can.
To make things even worse, my car is having a turbo upgrade right now from Renntech, stupid and pointless, I know but I wanted it.

That is an older Ferrari so in power you wont be giving up much. S63 is full second quicker to 60 than the F car. S550 with tune is just as fast. i bet skid pad numbers with good tires are also fairly close. Will it feel like a FCar, NO, but power wise it has a lot more torque and will feel faster stoplight to stoplight.

I am on the opposite side as far as options go as I have had cars with every box ticked off and I never used 1/2 of them. If regular s550 or s560 get the Sport package as you ge the s63 fascia, brakes and wheels. To me it totally changes how the car looks. Rear seat options can make trunk so small the 360 might have more room and im not joking. Stereo? thats a personal decision.

No real problems or years to avoid if looking at 222 models. Later years have better distronic. I prefer the v8 vs the 6 but some dont feel the difference. I think your going to be very surprised how fast the S class is and is Sport how well it handles. 7 series will bridge the gap as drivers car even more.

I'd go through autotrader and simply decide what you want. Impossible for us to really help with that. What you're asking for is too general. I knew I only wanted an S63 because I love the look of the AMG badging, the AMG engine, the AMG interior cool stuff and I wanted something different than a S560. For most people it's overkill. For me it was essential. Without knowing more about what you want, it's hard to say "get this" or "get this". Look at pics of 2015's through 2019's, pick a top budget, get a car and enjoy. I knew I had to have the newer 2018 since I loved the newer steering wheel and cool new options. I didn't want the happy face steering wheel of the earlier cars, you'll see what I mean when you look at used S's online.

Good luck! I adore my car. 2018 S63.

Previous 360 owner here...now 2015 S65. No way I'd ever go back. Keep something sporty on standby in case you want some spirited driving - doesn't have to be expensive (I have an e36 M3).

You need to know that you will be way more comfortable in a quieter ride and easier to handle car that is easy to get in and out of with doors that close softly and has the inner workings of a German vehicle and not a hard driving finicky and uncomfortable Ferrari Characteristics

That's what I ended up going with. A 2014. Not crazy fast so power is definitely usable, especially being 4matic.

Liked it more than the S550 I test drove though that was very nice as well.

Biggest problem for me was I could not find an S550 optioned the way I wanted it and being a 2014, the S63 wasn't much more money.

Acceleration is slightly better than my F355 but definitely feels like a huge boat in comparison. (because it is)

Thank you so much for the the detailed write up. Respectfully, I dont care much about performance at all so the s63 is probably out of the question. What does HUD mean? Is there a difference between 2014 and 2015?

Again, thanks for response

I figure if I dont ask, then I won't know....but what is the benefit of the 4matic.

For me, this is a family car to take kids so performance is not on the priority list at all.

Such a beautiful car. Thanks for sharing.

I guess to be more specific, Im just looking for a really nice and comfortable family sedan with decent options and performance not being important at all. Does one go for 4 matic? does 2014 matter vs 2015? DS

Hud is heads up display.

4Matic is all wheel drive. Depending on where you live this may or may not be a priority.

If you live in an area that gets snow it can be helpful. Though ultimately it comes down to tire selection, awd is helpful as well.

Is the S63 really a 3.3 second car ?
My S-600 is as fast as my Ferrari F355--except in corners.

4 matic is a beast in rain and snow. In Ny u cant even find a rwd s550. But the rwd are about 10k cheaper when looking used.

2019 S63 official numbers are 0-60 in 3.4 but a few of the members here ran 3.29 in another thread.
