checked fuse in footwell and all seemed well in that area & then upon restarting i’d lost the instrument panel as well

this was all 30 mins before a transporter turned up to take the car to another destination for us, loaded it up and i’ll have to sort it out when reunited with the car next week.

i’ll carry out the advised resets outlined on this thread but i’m a little worried about loosing the cluster display after fiddling with the fuses, wandering if i might have replaced the fuse in the wrong location or something..

any ideas? Anyone else lose their instrument cluster shortly after losing their command screen?

ETA: i also lost functionality of all the buttons in the lower area, where you select suspension, exhaust, transmission etc

I have exactly the same problem, dead command screen (but can hear radio) and lower console buttons not working. did you resolve yours? mine just did it as i was driving along. all fuses check out ok

Have you got a phone plugged in? I used to get this on my 2019, and still get it occasionally on my 2020. It seems to be when I am leaving work, and maybe plug my phone in before command has started. Yes I’ve changed cables, and it will soon be time for a new phone. I normally press and hold the seat menu button, left hand button non on the center console in front of the wheel/track pad. There have been times when I’ve had to stop and restart the car, really not convenient in evening traffic. Actually, writing this out makes me realize that this is probably happening more often than it should!

I dont have a phone plugged in, however going through the paperwork the previous owner had an "integrated smartphone system" fitted a year ago. no idea where it is, all i can see is a USB cable that plugs in a socket under the arm rest and then comes out connected to nothing in the glove box

traced the cable to the glove box and its just an extension. the tephone kit is an MB original one and just a cradle and charger. what i did fin din the boot/trunk is a battery trickle charger hard wired under the floor. its not an original item so i wonder it teh battery under there powers the centre console and its gone bad

I just read through the whole thread....

Guys and gals... Where your car is doing something naughty like this... verify battery strength and replace as needed.... then plug into XENTRY for a lot of information that may reduce time spent chasing your tail.

Thanks, its off into the main dealer in teh morning, hopefully its just a battery issue. ironically when ever I have bought a used car in the past I have always as a matter of course changed all batteries at first service apart from my last W221 which was only 18 months old with 5200 miles on it, battery lasted 5 years and when it went the car suddenly died at a set of lights, no warning. it got taken to MB who immediately diagnosed dead main battery (covered under warrantee) hoping this is just a battery failure. interesting that the command is actually fully functioning from the steering wheel functions, just teh screen is dead and all the buttons in the centre dead.

Solved, sort of! It went into MB who confirmed no power to the console, after removing the seats to get the carpets up and to the harness etc it came back to life while doing this. They pulled all the carpets out and could find no faults such as damaged wires, connector unplugged etc. so they unplugged it all, plugged it all back it, left it on test for 8 hours while periodically tapping and wiggling, shouting at it etc and it all stayed on. The unofficial term is “gremlins” lol. Fortunately I don’t have to pay it as the dealer I got it from picked up the cost. on the good news i had the main service done and health check, this was the big one with all the plugs replaced etc and they said its in very good condition, well looked after.
