The C8 is what I have my eyes on, but as mentioned, I'm going to wait till the dust settles before buying one. They had a booth at Barrett Jackson and the rep said they've only released one model (the stingray I believe) so far and they've got more model/trim packages in the pipeline.

Yeah, me too! Even though I’m a comfort & safety seeking guy, if and when Chevy offers a “softer” version of the C8, complete with at least an optional “Driver’s Assistance” type package., I just may put one in my garage. Corvettes got me started as an entrepreneur, back in the 1960’s, as I repaired, restored, drag raced, bought & sold them. Even though I did not continue with them, I sort of feel as though I may need to get a C8. Mine would look a lot like this one:

I have mixed feelings about the C8. Super bargain, likely very competent. Mid-engine. Bonafide sports car on a budget even if GM will drop the $60k model next year. But this car somehow just doesn't look very good to my eyes. The front-end nose is too high for being so pointy and the rear too boxy and square. Worst will be those moron drivers that think they have fast car and want to race everyone (like Mustang drivers right now)...

My only complaint about the C8 exterior design, is how the scoops on the sides are part of the doors. As for driving idiocy, here where I live, the problem is more with the Ferrari, McLaren, AMG-GT, Porsche GT2 & other supercar owners. Nothing quite as bad as someone who drove Toyotas all their lives, finally making a fortune in the stock market and buying a cruise missile on four wheels. We have had some truly devastating crashes around town, almost always resulting in multiple fatalities. It would be priceless to see the look on their faces, when a new Z06--that cost about as much as a few of the OPTIONS on their cars--blows their doors off, but I really don't want to be around when it happens.

The first photos are very interesting. Over the next fewf years, I expect to see many refinements. Sure wish that blue color had been available on my SL.

NSX isn't luxurious in the interior right? Also, if we have to compare with Mercedes, we have to pick Gt63 or similar as we are comparing sport car vs luxury..!
Yes the NSX competes with the Vette, 911, GTR but this is more a personal choice of cross shopping. While the NSX and S63 are not even close to being the same segment of car the OP has a choice to make between 2 that are available to him.

I can handle the scoops but not that interior color!
At least they stepped up the interior game in 3LT trim

The dark red interior isn’t in the blue car. I’d go with this interior with the blue:

I can't believe how far the Corvette has come when I see it being mentioned seriously on this forum. And I believe it is rightly earned. I've had 7 Vettes over the years and they served me well during my younger years but I grew past them. With the C8 I am truly back in the fold and I could see myself grabbing one after 2-3 model years of refinement. For now I am looking to fill an empty garage bay with a 911...

They've been building them since the 1950s and they haven't refined them yet.
In all fairness, I think the C8 looks like an amazing deal for the price point. But no MT so I'm out.
Same with the NSX. No MT. Had a '15 TT 911 with PDK and hated it. Lost a lot of money getting rid of it.
911s since the early '90s here. Large dealer network and very reliable as well as lots of fun.

It’s a dying breed. The issue is it besides everybody raving about manuals is that that those people don’t actually buy them.
Same with the C8 Corvette. So many lament the lack of a manual yet virtually nobody bought the C7 with a stick...

That said, I understand the joy/involvement of driving with a manual but they are also a complete PITA in real life traffic. Never missed it either even in Germany where you have more opportunities to go all out.
I take a dual clutch over a manual any day...

so... Ive also had many vettes. I have a viper and an e46 m3 vert both in manual. My garage car will only be a manual I just like them. The new vette will come out with a manual trans it will be offered in the z06... It will be an almost electronic manual. Im also waiting to see what it is. Gm has already applied for the patent a year or so ago. They also say the viper may come back into production only manual and a convertible offered again..... that car I am highly interested in. The vette will be mass produced again and huge discounts will be offered if you wait a year.

I really enjoyed the manual in my last 911, just for the smooth, precise way it shifted.

I have great interest in this thread as it is attended by W222 owners with whom I share the great appreciation of the level of refinement that it offers. While I am a huge fan of the W222 I am afraid at the end of the day it is just too big. I really would like a car in the size of the cars considered by this thread (though the S Coupe is pretty darn big as well). I think that the obvious answer would be the SL however I really would prefer the simplicity of a hard top car. That then points to AMG GT's or 911's however from what I can gather from a refinement (in terms of ride quality and noise level) perspective they would come up short (open to disagreement here). Any suggestions for optimizing the refinement / length ratio in a fixed roof car including cars that have a back seat?

We have an S550 Sedan and an E550 Cabriolet. For the money... The E550 is a great 2 seater convertible. I have a buddy with an NSX and it's a tight fit.Get's a bit claustrophobic.

In my mind, the problem whit the C8 is that it is simply 5%-10% larger in every dimension than necessary. About 1 foot too long, about 4 inches to wide (not including door vents), and about 3 inches too high.

Now, if one were to shrink the C8 as described above, it would probably end up weighting 300 pounds less and be "that much more" sports car.

In the end it is hard to overcome simple physics and human stupidity. Hope the passenger survives. From the looks of it this was a first gen. AMG GTS coupe

The latest report says that she only suffered a broken ankle, but is traumatized. They went on to say that "she" was wearing a seat belt, which makes me wonder if the driver was not.
