2020 S560 Wind Noise

Hi everyone,

Picked up my 2020 S560 last week and one thing I noticed is a strong wind noise coming from the front after 70mph. I haven't test drive the car in the freeway yet but we have an open area close to my house that you can go up to 80. Anyone with the same issue? Am I being so picky? Thanks for sharing.

Wasn't this issue discussed already? Something about post FL W222s having window frame rubber seal issues? I barely remember this being discussed but am fairly confident that it has been.

What I feel it is, is that the rest of the car is so quiet, that the wind noise is more noticeable. My 2018 has some, but I would not call it offensive and I no longer even notice it, even at 75 or 80mph.

this is a sad thing for me causing me to get rid of my custom built 2018 s63. I had the same thing. It always sound like a window was slightly cracked. The dealer tried everything and kept saying I was crazy but they did hear it slightly. I went from renting a quite Tahoe to getting to my noisy S63. It resulted in a trade for a GLS 63 which is much quieter. There was someone else on the forum who had the same problem as I did. It’s sad because I had the car exactly how I wanted it.

Delta,

I thought the reason you went to the GLS63 was because you needed room, it was not practical for your use and the trunk was to small. I don’t recall you ever mentioning the wind noise but it was clear you needed the room. I remember your stunning S63. What a head turner.

That's interesting. I have noticed the same on mine and thought I was just crazy or exaggerating cause I'm a bit of an audiophile. Will show this to my dealer and have them fix it. I noticed too how high frequencies seemed to be way too present for an s-class. Louder than in my 98 CL ! For example in scenarios where I'd be standing on a light and cars would pass me at high speed, the tire noise came through too loudly.

I assume double pane glass models should be excluded from those wind noises

I might be wrong but I think the s-class has had double glazing as standard since the W140? I'll see what my dealer sais about the noise. It's not super loud or anything but I have noticed it.

Yes, it does have the double glazing. Not sure about the 223.

No, I don’t think so. My 2015 S550 was very quiet. Then, my 2018 S560 had the wind whistle issue, which wasn’t horrible, but noticeable to me. The dealer shined me on, saying it was normal. I really noticed the problem with my 2018 after taking delivery of my 2020 S560, which is VERY much improved and virtually silent. I believe all three had double pane glass.

Does anyone know more about this feature:

97B ENGINE NOISE REDUCTION VIA SPEAKER (EOC)

It seems like my car has a failure saved in relation to this feature and now I'm wondering if this is the problem. I just did a test drive with a technician at Mercedes and he said what I describe is not a wind noise issue. He was not sure whether the insulation of my cabin was somewhat out of the ordinary. He said they don't get that many S-Classes and usually don't test drive them so he can't compare.

Feature built into audio system, amplifier reduces unwanted engine noise using counter-phased sound waves.

Does the audio system have to be turned on for the noise reduction feature to work? Do you have to be listening to the audio system or does it reduce engine noise no matter what? Just curious.

Cannot definitively say at this time but my guess is yes. This link addresses ARNC that is also activated via sound system and is always active: https://media.daimler.com/marsMediaS...l?oid=48161321

When running Xentry I discovered that a radio noise cancellation was and still remains deactivated. Why doesn't this reset to turn on. Can only be reactivated vis dealer?
