got a 19 s560 and i dont drive it much and sometimes it sits for weeks at a time and i for sure dont want the battery to go bad. i also end up getting those mb notifications saying battery is low,.
i remember my bmw came with a special cord that would hook up at the bottom of the bumper (it wasnt a block heater) and it would charge the vehicle.
correct me if im wrong but i dont think our vehicles have that.
the battery is an agm right? so i assume that i can just hookup my noco genius to under the hood to the positive and then find a metal ground? or should i hook to the trunk
Yes, AGM Battery. At least on my 2017 S550 and my 2019 E450 the Positive battery connector is on the left side as your facing the engine. With my S550 you need to remove a panel at the front side of the engine compartment and lift it off. It is held on with three twist type fasteners. Under the panel will be the negative ground terminal and the sliding door red Positive terminal, if the 2019 is the same as the 2017.

I have CTEK chargers connected directly the trunk battery of my 2018 S560 and 2017 SL550. The quick-connect cable hangs out of my trunk when the cars are parked. When I'm ready to drive, simply disconnect the coupling and put the cable back inside the trunk.
So they changed battery location to the trunk on the 2018s or is that the small little starter battery? On my 2017 the big battery is in the front upper left engine compartment. Not even sure If my 2017 has the secondary starter battery? I’m hoping not. Those seemed like trouble in my 2015 s550. I know in my 2019 e450 they changed over to a big capacitor instead.
Thats right too I just remembered on my 2017 the battery is under the Floor compartment in the middle of the trunk, it's a big long main battery. The Terminals though to hook up the battery maintainer/charger are under the hood on the left side front as your facing the engine and you gotta remove a plastic cover with three twisty hold downs. That Cigarette lighter 12 v receptacle in the trunk won't work for a charger as it's only active when the key is in the on position as I remember.
bump! now its time to plug er in, im thinking of buying a noco genius 1 amp and hooking it up.
do i just hook it up to the front engine compartmenet battery area for my 2019 s560? or in the trunk
It does not mater where a trickle charger is hooked up, the staining) current flow is low enough that the wire distance (A.K.A., resistance) does not mater like it does when jump charging--which one should NOT do on any moder car with lots of computers.
While I generally like my CTEK charger/sustainer--it did "blow up" a brand new battery in my Ferrari that I did not drive for several months.
I’ve been very luck with my charger never any blown up batteries and the car is connected 6 months at a time. It’s a shlumacker unit 30 bucks. Maintainer. Best place too hookup is remove the plastic cover behind the exposed positive therminal. You’ll see a minus mark on the cover. It’s three twisty things you pop off. Be careful not to loose them they do come outta the corner. Hook positive to the red terminal after sliding back the door and negative to the post Under that cover. I’d recommend at least a 2 amp maintainer.
Darn it, that all sounds so complicated. Screw it, I guess I'm going to have to drive my car. Arghhh, I'm mostly only driving my other little car, so much fun. On my Porsche, I hook up the CTEK Charger right to the cigarette lighter, soooo much easier than having to hook it up to a battery terminal in some unknown area of the car (to me). I am so confused as I think my 2018 S63 is different and there's like... 2 batteries? Dang nabbit. I can't believe I have to drive my car in the middle of a pandemic where I'm not really driving much, just to keep the stupid battery charged.
Ha, the quality of my problems. It's all good I guess. Y'all are much smarter than me with this car stuff, battery locations, connecting things to a battery terminal, etc. Maybe I can invite my car guy friend over one day and he can show me how to do this since on my own, I'm lost. Unless there was a video pictorial, I would never figure this out from the posts above.
It’s easy the terminals from the maintainer hook up here. Normally my 2 amp maintainer will bring the battery to a full charge within 24 hours. I do this about once a month on both my S560 and E450 wagon. The S560 hookup is shown here. I've never had a problem leaving the maintainer on for six months and coming back to a fresh battery when one of the cars is stored. I check it every now and then with security cameras and normally the light is always dimming on and off on the maintainer meaning it's in rest mode and doing it's job just keeping the battery topped off. When the light is solid orange and in full charge mode it gets warm and is working hard. I generally always hook up at least a day before I leave the car so the light goes from solid orange to fluctuating green to be safe. This the one I use, worked fine for me the past 5 years.

I did the same, but I wanted to have the hood closed. So i ordered quick disconnect extender for CTEK and tapped a screw into the + and -. Ran the wire under all the plastic, popped the end of the disconnect opt through the hole directly above the headlight and let the wire hang out the front and close the hood. When ready to go for a ride, disconnect and push the wire back in, good to go... Another great feature about the quick disconnect is if you drive away and forget your connected, it will disconnect safely. Ask me how I know, ok, now ask me again, and one for time.... Cable is still good.
