Anybody Here Transition From Their W222 to The Tesla Model S?
Wife is pushing me to see our '18 S450 for a new 2020 Model S, just was curious if anyone has done the same or own both?
I am reluctant to give up the 450 as I enjoy the car very much and relish the luxurious appointments. I did drive the Model S and did enjoy it but not as comfortable and see many more on the road than my S.
She builds it as"long range" model with grey/white combo. But again the closer I look to detail on build quality the more hesitant I am in moving forward.
Thanks

God no, the Tesla is a bigger battery powered honda accord. Build fit and finish is no where near S class levels and if you can afford a Tesla or an S you can afford the gas.

I own older models, a 2015 S550 and 2016 Model S, each has had improvements since I bought them. Strengths of the MB, to me, are luxury, quality, and ride. Tesla strengths are instant torque, lower costs (including zero maintenance), and Autopilot for me being far better than Distronic Plus.
But I can't decide for you. It also depends on whether you are a 2 car (or more) family, and how often you need take long trips. If we were a one-car family with at least occasional need to take longer trips, I'd keep just the MB. If a two-car family, I'd be happier with one ICE/hybrid and one EV. Instant torque is somewhat addicting, so it is nice to have that option around.
BTW there are deals to be had on Audi etron and Jaguar iPace.

Mercedes S-class is a car I always wanted to own someday. Tesla is a technologically interesting product, but way overpriced and in no way aspirational.
If I had only those two choices I would take the S-class 100 times out of 100 ...

I was so disappointed the day I sat in one. I just could not believe how they sell their vegan fake leather and 10 year old design. It is a sharp looking car but it's long overdue for an update. The interior quality and design is just bad.
The biggest problem for me is the range. We have had lower cost EV cars and I will accept the charging but when I plunk down 6 figures Im not stopping for an hour in the desert to charge my car. This is where I just dont get how they are selling a luxury commuter car at that price. Its a great car at $75k
All autopilot cars are BS until I can fall asleep and let the car take over and Co accept liability otherwise it's a toy.
Torq? Yes, but again thats the top model with the insane 0-60 and from what i understand you have to prep the car and also have the charge to do it. Me, I hit the gas! and can do that over and over and over.
In LA they all think they are saving the world driving them.

We have a great member here, who goes by the handle LovinMercedes. He went from a W222 to a Model S and has great insight into the various differences. I believe he then went and ordered another W222 for his wife. Have not seen him here lately, hope all is well with him and his. Hey, Lovin! You out there? Help this fellow out and say “hi!”

Seems like a downgrade, aside from not buying gas for the thing.

The Tesla model S is selling poorly compared to its other models and the company has tried to increase sales by upgrading the car technically while lowering the price substantially (by $30k+ Loaded)
So if anyone likes the car, this is the time to get one. That said, it is at its very end of its lifecycle and will not get a physical refresh due to Musks other priorities.
Personally there is no way I would swap the S-class for a Model S. Thought about it several times and dismissed it quickly every time.
There is literally no overlap with these cars as the Model S has no qualities I enjoyed in the S class while featuring performance few S-class owners crave.
That said, I am itching to get an EV and have hope for the EQS delivering the blend of luxury and EV performance.
Hope this cars looks halfway acceptable...

A friend of mine commuted daily about an hour each way in and out of down town L.A. in his MBZ S550. (in L.A.'s wonderful stop and go traffic). He decided to save money and the environment and purchased a Tesla Model S. After about a month, he parked the Tesla and went back to driving his S-Class with 90,000+ miles on it. Why? He said it was not comfortable, not smooth, not quiet, or luxurious as his S-Class. All he wanted was a smooth quiet serene drive for his daily commute. There are pros and cons to both. It depends what you like and/or want. I hope this helps.
Good luck on whatever you chose.

MB’s
No I would keep the S Class. If she wants a model S go get one but to trade in a S Class for any Tesla I would say no. I drove a couple Tesla’s and other than the I stand torque and tech the car has nothing going for it. I was not amused after a couple hard launches as the novelty wore off.

coming from a bmw 5 series..actually for me it was a debate. i don't think it's a wrong answer really. mb has the interior luxury hands down and the two huge screens almost make up compared to the Model S and the ride is ultimate relaxation, and just looks way better. whereas, the drive and the tech of the Model S is top notch with no maintenance or gas sets it apart for me at least, but i feel like for 70-90 tesla needs to really spice up the interior. i do plan on getting the cybertruck though.
