Deal on my Lease S63 and S560

Hi everyone,

I was almost sure to get the S63 instead of S560. Found the car I like however The same day I was at the dealership, they also offered me a fully loaded 2020 S560 ( 150K ). Below is the breakdown of both deals please let me know what do you guys think.

I decided to go with 60 months lease for S63 and buy the car probably after 24 to 36 months in the middle of the lease. Let me know what do you think.

2020 S63
MSRP 170K. Dealer Discount 17K
60 Months Lease.
10K mileage allowed per year.
I will put 20K down as MSD ( Multiple Security Deposit) to lower the money factor.
My monthly payment will be $2150 ( Tax included )
I'm kind of hesitant and thinking it may be better just to finance the car for 72 months instead of leasing and put the 20K Lease MSD as a down payment for finance.

150K MSRP. 20K dealer Discount.
48 months lease
10K
20K down which includes 17K MSD and 3K down payment
$1675 monthly payment

I appreciate your time.

I strongly recommend against any lease over 36 months as the numbers gets progressively worse and leasing makes no sense. Financing would be the better option.

Deals sound pretty bad though but there is some info missing. The MF is extremely low on the S560 (00057). That’s less than 1.37% interest. Residual is at 45 or 44% based on RWD or AWD.
You can decide for MSD’s to lower it further. A loaded model like this is also a very slow mover and I would look for a better discount.

At this point I also wonder if you are OK with getting this car since it’s at the end of its lifecycle. If you are interested in the new W223 S-class, Mercedes may still offer bridge leases (they did pre COVID), a short term lease to cover your needs until the next one is out.

I think the AMG is an especially tough model to lease - MB Financial is offering pretty inexpensive 60/72 month financing right now. With some cash down, the 72mo payment prob gets you into lease payment territory. Of course, you take the risk on the residual when you finance and the sales tax treatment may be different in your state on loan vs. lease.

If I was staring at those #s and I was cool the outgoing W222 for the next few years, I would work the S560 lease - 36 months / 10K, put a bunch of MSDs. I get the following when I do that:

I see .00057 as the buy rate MF - and I assumed 7 MSDs to keep the total out of pocket to $20K. ($3K down, rest in MSDs) I used the AWD residual of 46% - assumed $1095 acq fee and $699 doc fee and put 3% tax in there.

That gives us a $2,023 payment with 3% tax. As Wolfman said - there's prob more to get on the 560 - if you could get another $5K off, which would be a total of 17%, the payment is $1,879. I'd grind a bit on the S560, try and get the 36mo payment into the $1,8XX range.

It's a good problem to have, really - best of luck with whatever choice you make.

If the “deal” is most important than look for a 3yr old car with low miles and 40% of the price. The depreciation on these is insane.

Those are terrible lease terms.

As Wolf stated, lease max is 36, maybe 40. AMG's in my experience are typically better purchase plays than lease as residuals are usually too low. With lower rates, the payments are probably not that far apart at that level. If lease is in your interest (able to write off), then go 560. You should be able to get the payment under 2k easy.

Who cares? Seriously. You don’t drive the better deal, you drive the car. Buy the car you want to drive.

Exactly. The question should have been which car? The better "deal" is always the cheaper one.

Since both cars are in play, the AMG factor can’t be the driving factor for the OP. Hence this question.

The S560 will be the better equipped one, given the base prices.

Which one you think is a better car because I want to finance it.

I would suggest you put together a weighted matrix analysis to help you decide. You may find this helpful in clarifying what you really value in your car purchase. Nothing wrong with the deal being a factor.

The S63 is the worse car to lease due to rates/residuals. This doesn’t matter with financing. Here the answer is strictly one of preference. Drive both cars for a prolonged time and see which one you like better. Acceleration and performance vs serene comfort.
You should be able to get either for a similar deal.

Nobody can make this choice for you...

Can only offer this one piece of advice. Don't put anything down on a lease to lower to capitalized cost. If you are in an accident, the insurance company will only pay off the balance of the lease and you will be out your down payment.

Better car? Best deal? It's totally subjective. There's no such thing. Just drive both cars for 45 minutes and you'll know which one to get. Like Wolfman said, it's impossible for us to decide this for you. Let us know what you end up getting and post some pics please. I would never have been happy with a S560 and others would never have been happy with an S63.

I have leased a new S-Class, CL, or AMG variant every 3 years for nearly 30 years. I write a check for the 1st months' payment and drive off the lot happy to take the business write-off for the next 36 months. The money factor and residual are usually excellent on the S-Class accounting for 65% of the S-Class production to be leased. The money factor on the AMG's is always higher and the residual is usually the lowest in the Mercedes lineup. Unfortunately, instability in the used car market has caused Mercedes (& BMW and Audi) to recently take away some of the nicer financial incentives. Nonetheless, If you need to reduce the monthly payment, financing with extended terms, and increased down payment is the only viable option - not leasing. I also agree that you drive the car and not the deal. The money factor and the residual may sound bad, but the 63 exhaust sound makes it all better!
