What discount to target for an in stock S560?
Hi all, considering trading my Lexus in on a 2020 S560. MSRPs are 125k or so. I’ve gotten a couple quotes and have been underwhelmed by the discounts, especially seeing that an all new S Class is coming. I was quoted $116k on a car with a $125k MSRP and $118k on a car with a $128k sticker that’s a demo. I was expecting more.
What have you guys achieved and seen?
Thanks in advance!

Yeah, I’m surprised that they’re not more interested in selling these cars. Audi and BMW and Lexus are giving huge discounts on their flagship level cars. $10k off and a $2,200 lease quote on a demo 560 doesn’t sound like they’re too motivated. $20k off a $90k sticker LS500 comes immediately, same with BMW and Audi.
the guy who quoted me on the S450 wrote me back and apologized for being new and being confused about their used car no haggle policy applying to new cars. They’re working up a quote for me.

No they’re not, but S Classes aren’t flying off the lot either. BMW and Audi have better discounts too.
Im sure I can do much better on these S Class numbers...

To the OP, I recommend waiting until the last week of the month, or even a few days before the month ends to buy/inquire about a car. If a dealer is close to reaching a manufacturer sales bonus they will be more likely to discount the car even more (sometimes at a loss for them) just so they can earn that bonus from the manufacturer, which can be thousands of dollars. A couple of my local dealers will put new S-Classes in their "courtesy loaner" program just so they can list them at a discount. (You can still lease a courtesy loaner). Do a nationwide search on cars.com or cargurus.com for new & used 2019/2020 S-classes to see which dealers are the most aggressive on their pricing.
Even though the redesigned S-class is on the way, some customers may be intimidated by the new tech and learning curve. You also have to consider reliability concerns the first few years of a new model, so they may prefer getting a 2020 S-class for a few years before getting the new version. That's one reason you might not be seeing big discounts. Plus, inventory numbers in general are low because the factories were shutdown, so until dealers get their inventory back up they may not be motivated to offer big discounts right now.

Seems to be plenty of inventory. I’m waiting on a quote from a local dealer, he can get me a car from anywhere. That’s how I got my current Lexus, my local dealer worked the deal and traded for it from Alabama. I typically wait until the end of the month too. I don’t care about 4Matic so they can get one from down south.
Issue I’m finding is most of them are black and I don’t want black. I also want the AMG package.
Here’s my thinking, and you guys tell me if I am totally off base here, I’m thinking an S560 around $120k should be leasable around $1,500? Preliminary quote on one was about $1,700 so I think I could get it there.

I think $1,500 a month is possible depending how much you put down. I believe I received a quote for a courtesy loaner S560 of around that amount with only taxes and fees due upfront. The selling price on that one was around 100K.
I don't like black cars either, but I especially don't like black interiors. Too boring and depressing for me.

I really don’t want to put anything down. I got another quote on one with a $123k sticker at $1,725 with 0 drive off, and that’s only a $9 k discount if I can do better with the discount I would think $1,500 is doable.
Im going to get some numbers on 450s too, I’d rather have the V8 but if they’re a lot cheaper to lease

Between 1993 & 2011, I had 8, brand new, fully loaded, air suspension LS sedans as my daily drivers. When I saw the spindle grille coming, I jumped to a 2013 S550 and am very happy I made the switch to MB. I am now on my third S Class and even though I do have complaints, overall I’m very happy with the cars.
Big thing for me is the S Class is just so much more expensive, it’s hard to justify...

Yeah I’ve lurked here for a while I’ve seen your posts. The spindle doesn’t bother me, the firmer ride and tighter interior of the LS500 does though. I’ve had 4 LS Sedans myself, a 1998, a 2004, a 2015 and this 2017. My 2017 is an L with air suspension and all.

No doubt it’s the better car...$550 more a month than I’m paying now is a lot though lol

Couple things on that, I have to lease for business. I know you can lease CPO Mercedes. I also just prefer new cars. However there do seem to be a good many really low mileage ones, like 8k 9k miles that have big drops in value. I would have to see an individual car like that

Starting to get into the realm of what would work.
Im out of town at the beach emailing dealers back and forth. This would be the second car I’ve bought exactly this way haha

I use this site regularly, it is an excellent source of info on auto depreciation. You should target at least 15% off MSRP and as much as 20% to be reflective of its value once you drive it off the lot.
Check out this link, for whatever you find it worth to you.
