Exclamation W222 Knock/Ticking Noise from Front Left when raising suspension/start-up

I've got a 2019 S450 and have been hearing a ticking/knocking sound coming from the front left suspension every time I start the car up and the air suspension raises. It can be replicated by pressing the "raise" button as well. Brought it to two different dealers and they both said it is "normal" and happens to other similar cars with the Air Matic. Am just wondering if any one here has the same issue as well? It's not a very pleasant sound and is actually quite annoying so I doubt it could be a "normal" feature.

Thanks in advance!

i have a 2020 and recently got out of 2017 S. I wouldn’t say knocking/ticking, but you can definitely hear the airmatic raise and release. Not sure I’ve ever heard a ticking noise though. Have the dealer pull out another out and duplicate it.

Thanks phillyreem, will ask them to demonstrate it tomorrow on another S.

I've had a few of these cars, sounds like something is not right, it is not a bad sound as you describe but more of a buzzing sound when the air compressor is running and then a click when it turns off.

Mine is light a "knock, knock, knock" sound as the suspension is raised. And when moving off slowly when cold it seems to be at a greater intensity. But it does not make any sound at speed or after driving for a couple of minutes.

Maybe one of the bushings holding your compressor is bad.
That may explain the knock sound, the compressor vibrating metal to metal….
let us know.

Is it on the side that got hit last year? Sounds like these mosty come from worn/broken suspension bushings. The only way to know for sure it to get the car up on a lift and look and feel what happens at the suspension and steering is moved back and forth. Lots of times, you only hear it when the car is still, but not when driving. Couple reasons. You might not hear it due to road noise when moving. But also, as force is applied to a suspension bushing in a particualr direction, it might not actually make any noise. Take it to a good indy shop or suspension shop, if there's one in your area. Normally; these things get progressively worse over time, so you'll know eventually. And also, look for uneven tire wear on that side of the car; is the inner, outer or middle, part of a tire showing weird wear patterns? That's the first thing a good mechanic will look for.

nope, drivers side. There is a button to lift the car, its the airmatic. Its like a strong motor noise trying to lift the car up. Started happening 2 days ago.
