Whats everybody think about Magnetite Black? Scratch resistance?
So, looking around for S560s as you remember from my last thread. Have about the best deal I'm going to get I think. I've been focusing on Iridium Silver, or Selenite Grey. The Grey ones are harder, but there are a bunch of silver ones out there that will work. My LS460L is silver with a black interior and I like it.
I drove one locally here today that was Magnetite Black and I liked it. I've always wanted a black car, but keeping it clean and scratch free would drive me nuts. People with Magnetite, how has it held up? Issues with scratches and swirls? The metallic flake should help with that I would think.
Thanks!

The W222 is more car, its more solid at speed, little more quiet, feels more substantial. The LS460L stands up though, its not a dramatic driving enjoyment difference. W222 has way more features and tech. LS460L has more room in the backseat and a bigger trunk.

My car is Obsidian Black metallic, not Magnetite. It also has metallic flakes, however. It’s a pretty paint, but extremely tough to keep looking clean. I actually think the metallic makes it worse as we have a lot of pollen during the summer in my area and the metallic flakes actually exacerbate the dusty appearance from the pollen. I hand wash a minimum of once per week but it looks bad after a couple days if the pollen or dust is bad...

I had black/ black 2013 S550. Gorgeous, but INSANELY difficult to keep clean. My current 2018 is Iridium Silver and that color is probably the easiest to keep clean and surface scratches don’t show at all. We had another MB in Iridium Silver that had to have some paint work done and zero problems matching it. I highly recommend the silver.

Magnetite black is my favorite black. It is a very hard paint as Mercedes paints are in general. I have come to find this out with our BMW which chips much easier/quicker...
Had most Mercedes Blacks over time from plain black enamel (040) to Obsidian Black, Black Opal, Magnetite Black and Mocha Black. Not a fan of Ruby Black which was similar to the older Almadine Black or Emerald Black but they are interesting colors as well. Most of these make the secondary colors pop in the sun.
Love Designo Mocha Black but that color doesn't work with all interior colors as Magnetite does.
We used to have a S550 in that color. Loved it so much that we got our AMG GTC roadster in Magnetite. Strangely enough, this color doesn't look dirty as easily as other blacks...

Yep, it does have a full sized spare! My wife's Pacifica minivan has no run flats and no spare, so thats probably the route I will go with the S560.
Leaning towards the silver. My other issue with Magnetite is it seems to commonly be paired with the charcoal/mocha interior which I don't care for. Theres one local to me which is black interior I drove, but that one lacks the wood/leather wheel which I am used to and want, and it had a door ding down to the metal in one of the rear passenger doors. Theres one in SC that is magnetite with porcelain exclusive kappa thats sharp. It has the 20" wheels though I prefer the 19s for ride.

That is, right after we removed the P-Zero run flats and replaced them with conventional Continentals
IMO the car also looks best with that wheel size.
Porcelain white exclusive Nappa is my favorite interior option.

i have porcelain exclusive nappa and like the look over solid black.....but it's not for everyone. No issue keeping clean.
all I need is a spare.

Although opinions are all over the place when it comes to wheel size I found 20” wheels to be the sweet spot for the S-Class.

With silver I like black, with darker exterior colors I like a little contrast

Silver with black interiors will work well; I just don't like all black interiors anymore. But whatever interior you decide on make sure to get a car with exclusive Nappa interior. Biggest bang for the buck if you enjoy a luxurious full leather/alcantara interior.

Yeah I prefer the exclusive Nappa, if only for the alcantara headliner but they are very hard to find. The car will likely wind up having the regular Nappa leather. I have an alcantara headliner in the Lexus and will miss it.
So 20s with conventional vs 19s with runflats, but what about 19s with conventional? Yeah Im looking for sport package cars so they all have 19s at least.

Yep, I know. I would definitely prefer the exclusive, but the only one I've found that isn't a $130k+ build is that RWD one in SC.
The stitched areas in my LS other than the seat and center armrest aren't real leather either, so thats not something that feels like a downgrade to me, but the headliner does.
Beautiful! I really like that. I gotta say, I actually prefer the pre-refresh front end.

There is a thread on here covering wheel and tire RF vs NRF. There are also sites that let you mix and match sizes to retain the OEM wheel/RF dia. A 19NRF setup can have very close to the same dia as a 20RF setup. Unless you are racing, the 19 with a NRF should provide a calmer ride.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I have the Desino Mocca Black and after 75000 miles and nothing but waxing I can still take the car to a car show and wow people with what they think is a car with 10000 miles.

In many situations, the paint is more closer to grey than black.
very low maintenance. I like it a lot.

Something you may look into is getting it ceramic coated from day one. Had it done recently on my black (040) S63 and it has been much easier to keep clean. Dust/dirt don't seem to stick to it as much.
