Moving away after shifting to D or R

Enjoying my new S but one thing that I'm still adjusting to is moving away from a stop after going from P into D or R. It's like the brake is on and I have to push on the gas pedal a little bit to overcome it, and then the car jumps a little bit. Maybe I'll get accustomed to it, but it feels a touch scary right now, like when I'm maneuvering in close quarters like inside the garage.

Thoughts?

Quite normal as the car many times automatically puts the car in the emergency brake mode and with a light touch of the accelerator it breaks free. Pay attention the next time you park your car in the garage. You can hear it apply the E brake just as you open the door to get out. Once you return and crank the car up, it takes you moving to release the brake.

Ya it is a little bit annoying, the reason Benz did that is so if you park on a hill it beats up on the trans less. One trick I do is before I first start driving the car from the garage is I pull up on the E brake handle while the car is still in park which releases the brake and then it drives as normal until the next time the car is parked and the e brake engages. If I've left the car parked on a hill I don't do this little trick as when the e brake releases and goes against the park lockup inside the trans it is not good for it so I just let the car do it's thing.

Mine doesn't feel like that. It's smooth.

Are you sure you're not on hold mode?

Thanks all, will try pulling the E-brake handle and see if that makes a difference.

Hold mode? ... can someone elaborate what that is, how you know, etc.?

I think he is referring to when you come to a stop, you can depress the brake pedal a good amount and the car goes into hold mode. Your foot is off the brake but the car doesn’t move. You just touch the accelerator when you are ready to go again. Good for when you are at long traffic lights.

If you press down on the brake pedal hard enough, the Hold mode activates and the word "Hold" comes up at the bottom of your instrument display. It releases as soon as you touch the gas pedal.

It's strange with my car when I first got it a few months ago it was completely smooth pulling out of the garage in the morning as it seemed the e brake release was more well coordinated with putting the car in drive and would happened a spit second before I hit the gas, but now it's similar to how my 2015 and 2017 were in that you can feel it bind just a little bit. I thought maybe MB corrected that for the MY 2018, guess not. Maybe it's because the brakes had just been re-done before I got the car and the release was better on the rear calipers, I don't know. But I don't find it that big a deal and out of respect for preservice my brakes and making for a smooth transition when I first start driving the car everyday releasing the e brake before I pull out of the garage does the trick. From then on it seems to be ok the rest of the day.
