Drive train vibration
Just acquired a 2018 S560 4matic. It has 35000km/22000 miles. I've noticed at typical city driving, there is a slightly noticeable vibration that you can feel through the steering wheel and more so while stopped at a traffic light. I was wondering if a transmission reflash from the previous owner's style of driving would eliminate this vibration. Also, is it true that only 4 cylinders are working at low speeds? If so, would that be the cause of the vibrations?
Thank you all

Hi Sean,
For all out there, I think I may have exaggerated the 'vibration'. It's not any thing strong, it's just a vibration that most vehicles have and most notable when sitting at a stoplight. I just feel that it shouldn't be as noticeable in a S-Class.

2010 E350 4Matic
I can't tell that the engine is running at idle on my 2010 E350 V6 with 135K miles. Reminders me of the '59 220SE I had in college. The car was so smooth and quiet that as I was waiting to pull into the street after I got new tires, one old guy on a bench commented to the guy next to him how quiet it was. Conclusion you shouldn't hear or feel anything in an S Class at idle.

Wow, now I'm worried. Maybe it was the gas I filled up with at a dinky convenience store, 91 octane. I hope that's the case. 93 octane is hard to find here in Windsor Canada, anyone know of a brand with 93?
Thanks all

Ok, just to be clear, almost all of you experience no noticeable engine vibration or noise while sitting in idle, usually at a stoplight? All is smooth and quiet, right?

I do notice slight vibration at idle in Drive when stopped. It resolves as soon as I release the brakes. Seems this is due to the 4 cylinder mode which occurs at rest to save gas.

Assuming you have a M176 engine in your 2019 S560, the four cylinder shutoff is active in the engine speed range between 900 and 3250 rpm provided the driver has selected mode For E with the Dynamic Select switch. Cylinder shutoff is inactive in all other transmission modes.

So 'blackbullit' do you drive in 'E' mode as Denis is suggesting or usually in the default 'Comfort' mode. I'm just simply asking the forum members to mention the drive train idle smoothness which is usually in Comfort mode. Not getting many responses tho.

I remember my '02 CL500 had a nasty vibration at idle. I think they all did

WE can only get 91 gas on California, I did top in some 101 octane race gas (just 2 gallons) and didn't notice much of a difference. If your still under a CPO warranty time to take to the dealership ASAP

I can still feel a slight engine vibration while holding the steering wheel. I just filled up with Mobil 93 octane and will let the forum know any results.

My '16 S coupe is in "comfort" mode always and as mentioned, I can't tell the engine is running when idling. I'll try it in the other mode, sport I believe, next time I drive the car and report back. How does yours idle when in comfort mode?

Well into a quarter tank of 93 octane and the car seems somewhat better, however the gas usage seems to be a tad higher. I'm at 15 L/100 km or 18.8 miles per gallon. Does that line up with you folks?

No such vibration in mine, The engine is notably smoother and more refined than the V8 in my previous 2017 LS460L.
