Performance Air Filters

What are some good performance air filters out here? KN filters run around $95 and Weistec filters are $260. Any difference? I used K&N filters on my 2013 S550 for well over 100,000 with zero issues. Just cleaned and re-oiled every 15k or so

$165

Or a waste of money, when OEM filters are more than sufficient and you don't deal with ALL the negatives that come oiled filters.

IF you do not increase Filter size or thickness you cannot really beat stock...Which is design for required air flow and cleanliness

IF any filter fitting in same space stating more air flow, then they also are allowing more dirt to pass...

I ran K&N filters on my modified 2013 S550 and that car became a monster capable of close to 200 mph and I never ran into any issues whatsoever. On a stock vehicle, I think the benefits are not significant but a modified car then certainly has benefits. My 2 cents

After-market air filters produce no more power than the stockers. In fact, there is likely a net loss from K&N and other over-priced filters. The HP claims from K&N and other aftermarket filters are total bullsh*t.

Do not run oiled filters on these cars. The oil gums up the mass airflow sensor and oil also gets into the intake.

And I'm calling BS on the near 200 MPH on a 2013 S550, even if it's tuned to the hilt.

Yes, near 200. The few times I took pics. And NO, I don't condone speeding and I don't speed, but it was good to know that if I ever had to, I could

But butt dynos are soooooo accurate!

I also love how 172mph is close to 200mph. I now officially consider myself close to 200lbs, to hell with that dumb scale saying 280...

I didn't say the pic was close to 200, I said the car became a monster capable of close to 200 and I've got it north of 190 on one occasion. The extensive mods done to that car made it very capable. Anyway, this is pointless at this time

Sorry bud, but I'm not buying your story. Even if you could hit the rev limiter in 7th gear, near 200 mph isn't possible with the stock gearing in the trans.

Post a video with GPS showing your actual speed on one of your joy rides.

My opinion::

Air filtration is a tricky subject when one does not specify the life of the motor.
A race motor with a service life of 4 hours does not need any air filter !
A high performance motor with a 50K mile life can easily survive with a K&N (should one want to)
A medium performance motor with a 300K mile service life cannot survive in a dusty environment with a K&N but can with a factory filter.
If you trade in your car every couple of years, you basically don't need to worry about air filtration.
If you want to have your car live 15 years and still run well, you do.

The concept that you can feel/appreciate the 1% gain an air filter brings in a 5,000 pound car is ludicrous.
That you can hear more intake roar is not.

Those aftermarket drop in filters net a 0% gain. And you'd never hear any difference since they fit in the enclosed filter box. If they were the cone exterior filters, I'd agree on the sound.
