I brought my car to the dealer on Pines Blvd in Florida for a left low beam malfunction and a full service. They told me that they needed to replace the module which i approved they then told me that if that did not work it would need a headlight replacement also. The then called me and said the full service was done and they did not have the headlight part in stock and needed to order it. They closed up my car and I picked it up while they waited for the part. the part supposedly arrived a week or so later . I dropped the car off yesterday and they told me it would be ready shortly. I received a call from the service rep and he told me that the part they received was the wrong part and they needed to get the right part. So today Tuesday 10/12/2021 i get a call and am told that the part arrived and my car would be ready by 5.
I went to pick up my car and when I got in to the car. I had the headlights working but the dashboard looked different it had a big touch screen key pad on the screen. NO satellite radio, NO Radio of any sorts or sound, No sound anywhere, No navigation, NO 360 camera, NO seat adjustments NO seat settings no electronics of any sort. I honestly do not know if the distronic is working or lane assist or whatever since I can not access through the display. They told me it was the amplifier that miraculously went bad during the visit. Apparently from what i see they did not install the right part and the rep gave me some ridiculous story how the part is now different. I believe that in order for it to work they did a software update to a software that is meant for different vehicle. I have no touch screen. I had never seen this on the display. of a 2016 S550 4matic.
I dont know what to do. I took the car home. I have no confidence in their ability at all. my car is always more problematic after i get it back from them always!!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.. I have never seen this screen in all the years I have owned this car.
i have never seen this screen before in all the time i have owned the car.

Reason: clarify
So you took the car back without it working properly? I'd say get the dealer to finish the repair properly before you accept the car back. Title is a bit overly dramatic, it seems as if something isn't programmed properly or possibly the wrong part was fitted. Far from destroying your car.
I wouldn't say they "destroyed" the car. The headlight modules have to be programmed, so I suspect the tech left the vehicle in a diagnostic mode. Regardless, you should return the car to the dealer and have them complete repairs.
ItalianJoe1 . I do apologize for the drama.. Was just very frustrated not knowing what was done to my car. On computers or servers we can check logs and versions how do you do that on a Benz...
Thanks to all here for the advice.. I did take it to an independent shop that said the entire network within the car is down and it looks like the wrong or corrupt software was in some way pushed into the system, that caused the network to crash. They said I would have to leave the car for a full diagnostic and the cost of that was $700. In any event at least I had some bearings and a possible solution. I took it back to the dealer and they said they would diagnose the car and let me know what was up .. A different tune today. I left it and am waiting for a response from them, Crash or no crash bad component or not i don't get the touch pad on the screen. My younger daughter just bought a 2021 GLE350 and as i was riding with her i set the display to phone and low and behold it had the same touch pad. Her car has a touch screen so it makes sense .. Big Bold easy to use.
Has anyone seen a 2016 s550 w222 with a touch screen?
again thanks for the help and support and again sorry about the dramatic title.. Ill make sure i tone it down next time!

Nope, W222 doesn't have a touch screen. Good luck with the repairs though, hopefully they get it figured out as soon as possible and return the car to you.
I had something similar with my 2007 S550. Way back then they came out with the new for the US 2007 W221 and then did an electronic update in 2008 (phone keypad could now be used for station presets as well as other important changes). The dealer could update 2007's to the new software. It took me a while to get around to it but around 2010 my dealer agreed to update and after it the car was totally messed up- AC stopped working, stereo was bonkers etc. In the end the service guy loaded software from a later model hybrid and not an S550. They reloaded the correct software and all was fine. Just based on what you are saying they may have loaded the wrong software.

I am surprised the system doesn't verify if the software is appropriate for the VIN before allowing the installation to complete.

Trust me- when I sent my car back in after the update (they delivered it to me that way) I texted the dealership manager and he said the head forman said all was ok. I said something along the lines of "tell that cro-magnon twit to pull another car side by side and check". He did and agreed all was wrong. No idea how the system let them do it.

Please don't get me wrong I am not saying it didn't happen or that you are lying, I meant I don't get why they don't design the system so it verifies the VIN before installing. Why would MB overlook something like this. Either way, glad they admit their fault (I mean at least they have to when it is clearly their fault) and that you got the car back working and all, sorry to hear about the ordeal.

The problem is what to do when they do not admit fault. That's this issue.. the dealer swears up and down its a bad component that miraculously went bad during the visit.. or in this case from the shop to the customer pickup area... because they say all was fine.. SMDH I will definitely let all that are helping me know what is happening.. I do appreciate all the comments and help.. Thank you all!

I get the "cannot duplicate, customer monitor" respond all the time, it is just like a script they use when they want to deny any warranty repairs. Most of the times I need to actually bring up service bulletins, they won't bother looking things up. That is at least true with my experience at MB dealerships here in Canada.
So funny when customers bring in a MB bulletin the service writers could care les about those. I have the dreaded hard downshift issue and printed out something about that and the writer who is a good guy didn't even look at it, he looked THROUGH it.
So here is the dilemma; all the Mercedes Benz dealerships are owned by AutoNation . So whether i go to Miami, or Ft Lauderdale, or Pembroke Pines its all the same conmen in my opinion. Untrustworthy! All on the same network. So I don't know if i would have any luck at one of those other places.
SO far and as an update The dealer has had my car now since 10/14/2021. The told me it was a bad head unit??? part number 217-900-60-3-80 they said they are sending it out to see if it can be rebuilt??? I asked if the head unit is bad and the car has no nav no phone no controls of any kind i can understand because yes they are all controlled by the command unit and the wonderment is how it goes bad while in their care. and the real question is how does it have touch software on the screen. I know it miraculously failed and loaded touchscreen software. Currently i am stuck don't have a car they said they would need it for at least 2 weeks. And to add insult to injury i had just bought a new 2021 GLE 350 with a ton of extra options. I am concerned they play these games with my other cars. I have been a Mercedes Benz loyal customer since 1979. The Northeast has spoiled me with he dealerships independently owned and competing by providing excellent service. You don't like one you can go to another. Down here in South Florida not so much! I almost feel like shipping my car north to have it serviced. SMDH. Still stuck in this nightmare. I don't understand why they just didn't say lets replace the head unit with a new one.. send it out for a rebuild? I have never heard of or seen such a thing at Mercedes. Does anyone know what the software version on a 2016 S550 (W222) is can it be flashed. updated with the latest version for that car? any guidance would be appreciated!
Today I was told that they needed to tow my car to another facility that's doing the head unit repair to make sure all is working. Apparently this dealership although Mercedes Certified cant do the job.. he also told me that they cant gat a new unit because of the "OF COURSE" pandemic? huh? I can go online and get one now and they cant?
All this shows me is they know they were at fault and really screwed up!!!.
Its now the 27th and I still dont have my car! I was told the car came back to the dealer and it was rebuilt and now they are waiting on Mercedes to send them the software and codes so they can update the unit???? I don't get it.. Currently i am driving my 2008 ML 550.. i forgot what a nice car it truly is!!!.. not as sophisticated as the newer Benz variants however all the power int eh world and everything works..

Sorry to hear all this. What a headache! Mercedes of Tampa Bay and Crown Eurocars in Pinellas are both Mercedes dealerships that are not owned by AutoNation. I dealt with a carfax issue at the AutoNation I bought my Lexus so I try to avoid them.

I know it sounds like total dealer BS but I had a very similar (but MUCH LESS) issue than yours. Mine involved an Android Auto app that should have been OEM on my car at the factory but was not installed. Apple Car Play was present but no Android. The dealer had to request a complete re-installation of the entire vehicle data package for my specific VIN. The data package had to be created and digitally sent to my dealer from Germany. The dealer needed the car for two days to digitally remove all programming that was installed during the original factory-build and replace it with the data package it received from Germany. The good news, for me, it totally worked, but I'm still stunned the Android couldn't be added in a couple of minutes with a thumb drive.
