19' s560 mouse infestation smell, how to get rid

hello! i had my car parked in my garage over the winter and i finally got to driving it after 6 months of sitting and i noticed tons of mouse dropplings in random areas of the vehicle such as truck and glove box etc, so i called the pest control people and they came by and did the garage for me and also some areas of the car. however my car still smells bad like mouse and just gross in general. the pest control guy said he thinks i prob have to change my cabin filter so ill order that soon since he he thinks they probably are up in there somewhere, furthermore i wanted to ask you all what u think i should do to get rid of the smell and or where i should check in the car if they have a nest or something etc. lastly should i end up getting it steam cleaned or detailed or something?

thx!

I had that same issue in my pick up truck that is parked outside. After getting rid of the remnants of their nests in the engine bay and the air con intake filter, I sprayed many times with an ozone spray odor eliminator that I bought at one of the car parts stores. After a while it was gone. Good luck!

Sprinkle baking soda around the inside of the car on the flooring. Leave it there for a week or two, then vacuum it. Repeat if necessary.

With the ozium spray I used that in the interior and the vents. I didn't need to use it in the engine bay since the truck engine bay is very open to the air.

Take it to an MB dealer and pay for an air conditioning treatment. This is done for a number of MB models under a class action settlement. They spray some stuff in there to disinfect it.

However if there are dead mice, nest material and lots of you know what it may take a long time to return to acceptable.

Changing the cabin filter will not be enough. I would get a professional to do the cleaning/disinfection. This is the surest way. Mice feces and urine can get dried and become dust and stain inside the air vents which need to be cleaned thoroughly. It is not just the bad smell but potential health hazard due to diseases, which can be serious.

Also, mice like to do bad things to cars, eg chewing wires, thus causing electrical system problems. You might want to ask an MB dealer to do a complete inspection.

Any pet repelling products ? I mean such products that emit ultrasonic sound waves to fend off those things . However, if you go this way make sure it automatically changes its frequencies to work effectively . I have not used any of those products though

As mentioned, make sure all mouse debris are removed. Use a foaming cleaner in the vents or have mb do it. You want this done so nothing blows into your face from the vents, like mouse poop or urine.

The easiest way to remove any smell from a car is with an ozone generator, which are about a hundred bucks on Amazon. I have used ozone for decades and always recommend it for smells that are unable to be wiped away.buy at least a 10000ppm unit

Various
Mice got into one of my cars that wasn’t driven much a year or so ago. It’s parked in our carport so easy rodent access. Luckily they didn’t get inside the car and didn’t chew any wires. The urine smell was terrible. They built their nest in the cabin fresh air intake area at the back of the engine bay/dash area. I took apart as much as I could - getting the nest out was a must. Then vacuum and damp soapy towels. Not an easy area to clean. I also used Lysol spray. And I put in steel wool in various gaps to try and keep them out and I added a couple battery powered ultrasonic things.

They were also going into the engine air intake and hanging out under the air filter. No nest there but a mess with acorn parts and other debris. So I added some stainless steel mesh at the intake.

It took about a month for the odor to go away and so far no new signs. In the garage I have many ultrasonic things plugged in. Various makes and plugged into about every outlet - hopefully it’s an ultrasonic blast zone. I’ve added them to the house also. I think they’re working.

The easiest way to get rid of the smell is the fill the interior with gasoline and ignite...................
{{probably not very helpful--but it would get rid of the smell}}

A few of my work cars had some wiring damage due to rodents and I went that route.

I installed one of these devices with ultrasonic noise & flashing light features, put in rechargeable AA lithium batteries. It has a sensor that shuts the unit off when car is on/moving, my S might get driven once every week or two, rechargeable lithium batteries last 3+ weeks. Since install, there hasn’t been any rodent issues. Work location is in the middle of NYC where rats roam the streets with impunity.

For cleaning, mice can and will get into everything, it’ll be difficult for you to get into the vent system to ensure a deep clean. Car vent cleaning service from a detail shop or possibly a HVAC company could be an option for you here.

If you want to personally tackle the cleaning, I recommend spraying hydrogen peroxide directly on surfaces and let soak for 10-15 min which breaks down the organic matter, bacteria, viruses etc., wipe and spray again with mild cleaning solution.

Spraying the carpeting down with hydrogen peroxide is color safe. Let it sit for 10-15 min, pat dry, give it a day or so to air out, when fully dry sprinkle liberal amounts of baking soda and let sit for 30-40 min, vacuum out and you’ll have a fresh interior.

^^^^ Hydrogen peroxide is an excellent disinfectant. If you think you still have critters, get a hungry cat.

IMO, ClO2 (chlorine dioxide) is far more effective and safer on materials inside a vehicle vs ozone. Quicker too. Ozone can make lasting damage if run too long.
