Brakes & Rotors 25,000 miles

I need front brakes & rotors at 25,000 miles. What do you guys recommend ?
I can't believe how wavy the rotors are. You can feel the wear if you run your finger across the face of the rotor.

The dealer wanted $1400. I laughed.

2019 S63 4Matic+, 2018 E400 Cabrio, wardens car.
If you are handy with a wrench you can do it yourself for around 400.00 in parts. New rotors are around 250.00 and pads are another 100 bucks for the ceramic low dust pads, 50 bucks for HW, sensor and brake fluid all from Rock Auto. Shop will probably charge you close to a grand for the work and dealer is as you have discovered charging an obscene amount. I do my own brakes and the S Class is no more difficult to do the job on than a Honda civic. YouTube is your friend.

Did the brake light come on? Seems about 75K too early. Is this a used car? Are you braking like a crazy person? Any more details could be helpful.

Don't tell me... I know, I know... you don't use your brakes, only drive on the highway, and get 100,000 miles out of brakes rotors & tires. and then make stupid comments.

The brakes on the W222 are standard Brembo brakes which are designed to be easy to replace. So if you're comfortable working on your car, there are some great Youtube tutorials.

As far as parts, I prefer to use oem pads, rotors, sensors, and hardware, but I buy them from FCP or MBOnline parts.

My stealership tricked me into changing my rears at 35k, they had 50% but he didn't explain that I paid $400 for pads but my fronts at 38k still had 70% life at last B service in January

I looked myself. 25,000 miles, there is about 20% left on the pads.
I normally run the pads all the way down, because rotors are disposable. Just like the wheels.

I did my fronts back in the spring. The pads measured 5 - 8 mm, with a min spec of 3 to replace, but the rotors had huge lips and were overdue. The carfax showed the front and rear were done by the previous owner at 21,690 and I did my fronts at 44,600, so it seems plausible that our cars do need frequent replacement.

As others pointed out, replacing pads and rotors is one of the easiest things to do on a car. Most of the time and effort is getting the car safely lifted and supported and then thoroughly cleaning everything.

Like oil and tires, everyone has their favorite brake parts. I put in EBC Redstuff pads, which, among other things, have what they call a "break-in" coating that polishes the rotor surface, an interesting effect as shown below. So far, I like these very well and believe their claims of less dust. The EBC's are perfectly smooth and quiet in use and have a pleasingly stronger initial bite than the old ones I took out.

No reason to be crotchety lol, maybe you misunderstood, or read into some sort of tone? Or maybe you just don't know a thing about cars or MB's Hard to say at this point. Seems like you drive like an angel so it must have been a used car that was abused. Have fun with that

This is crazy. I got 85K miles on a set of rotors for my 2017 S63. Went through 2 sets of pads per one set of rotors and what is strange is that the rear pads wore out before the front. I always thought the front rotors took most of the stopping power, but the fronts are also bigger, so that probably is why they lasted longer.

It takes 10 minutes to do the brake pads. I just can't get the bolts torqued down, or even loosened up. Needs to be on a lift. So I'll probably throw a set of pads in there, and call it a day.

There is no way you will get 100k miles from front brakes on a car like this unless your driving is all highway. I was surprised mine didnt need to be done at my 20k mile B service.

Rear brakes is how the stability control system works,
and especially how the Distronic slows the car to avoid bumping into the car in front.
The later is why I mostly don't use cruise control.

I, personally, am at 39K miles on my S-600 and the pads are well under ½ way (more than ½ left).

Brakes--here--it is how you use them.......

I see the humor, but the idea that people who can afford a car like this don’t care about value isn’t at all true. If the $1,400 resulted in some special brakes that the car needed to perform the way it was designed to, that would be one thing, but it’s just dealer overhead. I can get better brakes done by techs who do better work for less.

If the rotors are truly (wavy) you won't be happy with just pads.

Either resurface the rotors if they have enough metal left to clean up without them going under size or replace them.

A problem with staying with the old rotors -- even if they are not wavy or can be resurfaced -- is by the time the replacement pads set off the wear sensor again the rotors can be worn under size.

My SOP is to when the pads are worn down to the sensors to replace pads and rotors.

If that quote was for front and rear brakes then that's a great deal. I spent that much alone on rotors, pads and sensors: front and rear for my CLS just on the parts from FCP Euro.

Agreed, my guess is the quote is just for the fronts.

Remember though from FCP Euro you're getting lifetime replacements.

I'd also add I'm at 70K miles and am STILL waiting for the light to come on to replace. OEM parts

And there's still pad left! I changed the rear drums and pads as well as the cylinders on my 1998 F150 this weekend at 102K miles! Driving style is clearly a factor

You must drive a lot of highway miles. Rear brakes, sure, the rear drums on your old F150 don't surprise me, but front brakes on a big heavy car like an S Class are a different story. I'm not a crazy aggressive driver, but I don't putt along and glide to a stop either, nor would I want to drive that way.

You're not kidding. On an S63, the whole job at a stealership is over $9K.
