‘18 S560 - missing short (4”?) piece of grill trim.

My dealer says only complete grills can be ordered.

Can anyone offer a reasonable suggestion on finding a single piece, short of digging around in a bone yard?

If it’s this piece that’s missing, then I was able to replace it on my 2019 S450, which has the surround view/360 camera. I had to replace the camera door, which has the chrome attached and cost about $75.

Through the internet or your MB dealer parts.

Thanks to others here, the part # is MERCEDES X222 S-CLASS W222 X222 Cap 22288502269040.

Just make certain if you buy on the open market, your dealer agreed to install and calibrate the part.

I bought an aftermarket part from E Europe but don’t know what the dealer will agree to yet.

Its a 30 minute project if you have some basic mechanical aptitude, and there wasn't anything to recalibrate, it's a spring loaded door. The toughest part was putting the new door in, with the spring in the correct position (you have to re-use the old spring.)
  • I ordered 222-885-02-26-9040, I do have the 360 camera, this is the door, with the trim piece attached.
  • The install wasn’t too bad, remove the four 10mm bolts across the top of the grill, and then pull the grill forwards.
    • There are three clips across the top and two on the bottom that hold it in place after that. I gently pried them out on the top, and pulled the grill out at the bottom
    • Detach all of the electrical connectors, I had 3.
  • Place the grill face down on something soft (a towel or sheet)
    • There are five torx screws holding the camera assembly in place, take them all out.
    • See picture below
  • Push the camera door so that it’s wide open, and pull the camera out.
  • The door has a spring on it, take note of where it is!
    • Really, take note/a picture of how it's installed
  • Unclip the door, and your ready to go in reverse.
  • Putting the spring back on the door was a pain, but after that it went quickly.
  • Go to fridge
    • Remove adult beverage
    • Open adult beverage
    • Sit back and enjoy!

I got it done the easy way - took the car and part to my body shop guy - he pried the chrome bit off the plastic, and pushed in the gap left by the missing chrome piece;
That was it - took maybe 5-6 minutes to pry it off with his pocket knife, and three seconds to insert it. Perfect fit. The only tools je used were his knife blade and his fingers. No cost.

Yes, but no credit to me - it was my son’s idea and I was only an onlooker.

I noticed mine is missing the chrome trip on the camera door too, after a car wash drying. I see that you replaced the entire camera door. Is their any reason that I should not just simply order only the chrome trim piece and install it simply without removing anything, instead of ordering the entire camera door that needs removal of the entire grill ? See below. Do you recommend I apply glue to make sure it does not fall of again?

The trim piece on its own is for cars that don’t have the camera door. When I put in my VIN it was the wrong part. That’s why I did the door, would the trim piece fit? 🤷🏻‍♂️

When I look at the left hand side (no camera side) vs the right hand side (camera side) they seem identical so if I have to guess, the Camera door or no camera door seem to have the same exact trim piece. I ordered it and will see what happens.

Also the part description says: "Validity: With (model year 2014, model year 2015, model year 2016, or model year 2017) and 360 camera."

So it clearly says 360 camera for sure. Now the only concern I have is whether it also fits the door camera door for the facelift 2018+ or not !!!

I ordered that one and will see how it goes. Another solution might be to order the more expensive part number (with the door like you did) but then remove the chrome trim piece from the new part and re-install it on the existing camera door. Anyway I ordered the part number i listed above and will see how it goes.

Just in case it’s been overlooked, I bought the simple part. My bodyshop friend pried off the chrome bit with his pocket knife ( 5? minutes?) and pushed it into the opening, 3 seconds. Voila!

Just to confirm, so you bought the small chrome piece I listed above, and it was a good fit for the facelift W222 "but with minor scuffing and cutting, right?? Did he need to use glue since he needed to make some adjustment?

Looking at the trim piece in photos, it seems similar for pre and post facelift, but i guess the inserts from behind may have difference geometry which I guess that your bodyshop friend had to do... ?

Edit: reading through all your comments, it looks like what you purchased is the full door cover for the facelift, and then you removed the chrome piece. What I am doing is buying just the chrome trim itself for $20, but then hopping that pre-facelift and post-facelift have the same chrome piece geometry. I also thought about ordering the entire door peice like you did for 100 USD but then found the chrome piece alone for $20 (risk is that it is for pre-facelift) and then will try to see if the trim piece will match the facelift door camera trim.

I never saw the separate chrome piece offered.

With my repair, no scuffing, no glue.

On the back of the chrome piece there were two small hook-like protrusions. It simply pushed into place.

Ok thanks. The chrome trim piece is arriving next week. I’ll report back if it works or not.
