Anyone here have a 2020 S650 Maybach sedan?
I am looking to get feedback on the 2019 or 2020 S650 Maybach sedan. I am a long time S Class driver, thinking of going for an S650. Thanks.

I had a 16 Maybach. It was wonderful. With that said most of what made the car special was the back seat and if your not sitting there then the difference between it and any other S class is not that great. Yes you do get the wonderful 3d sound system that is rare on any other s class.

I have to ask why would you not buy a 2020 S650? It has the same hand built V12 as my S65 and the same 7 speed torque converter transmission that in C makes undetectable up and down shifts. Since purchasing my S65 in 2015 I have done all the MB scheduled services plus 3 sets of tires, one set of brake pads and replaced the auxiliary battery. That is it. I strongly recommend finding one with the optional Designo semi-analine interior. Trunk space will be smaller than your previous W220's because of the reclining rear seats. We live 25 minutes apart if you want to drive the S65, the S650 is the same except the suspension settings are not as firm and the 2020 has the MBC Curve function, my 2015 has MBC, no curve function. The S65 as an AMG does not have run flat tires.

Bare in Mind the Maybach is loaded with AMG parts. I know this because in doing the maintenance on the car you encounter a LOT of AMG stamped parts.
Hi there Streamliner. I still stop by on occasion. The V12 was wonderful BUT the eight cylinder is also very smooth. We replaced the Maybach with a 22 F150 Limited. The truck is wonderful. The Blue Cruise is also wonderful. I thought the Maybach was pretty advanced but it does not hold a candle to the Blue Cruise where you can take your hands off the wheel for great deals of time while in the freeway. I am sure Mercedes is next with this technology.
PS I did not get rid of the AMG GTC. LOVE that car too much.

Stream,
For the most part, I have been keeping up with your posts and your unpleasant experiences with the new W223. Sounds like a '20 Maybach would be perfect for you. All of them come fully spec'd and very easy to find with super low mileage in SoCal.
If they still made the regular sedan V12s that would have probably been the best. But with the facelift MB only did the Maybach. I hear that V12 is buttery smooth. In 2017 when shopping for my S, a local dealer did try to offer me a '16 Maybach S600 brand new that sat on the showroom floor. I entertained the idea for a few seconds, sat in the back, played with the tray tables, but came back to reality and realized it was more than I could afford, even with a heavy discount. Off my soapbox now, good luck to you sir!

Keep in mind that the Maybach sedan is 6" longer than a standard S-Class sedan (AMG or not). So parking can be an issue at times. The Maybach's are designed to run much smoother and quieter than the standard S. They are designed primarily for people who want to be driven. If you are going to mostly drive it yourself the Standard S560 will handle much better. For reference, I have a fully loaded 2020 S560 with upgraded leather, non-sport suspension, executive rear seat package with the trays coming out, etc. I even ordered it with the Magic Body Control, 3D surround sound, and the 19" muti-spoke wheels which uses slightly higher profile tires which ride much smoother than the 20" wheels. The car in my opinion drives and handles better than the Maybach primarily because its shorter and is highly configured. The leather and finishes will obviously be nicer on the Maybach so will the sound deadening materials. I liked mine so much that I ended up buying it out of the lease which was about to end. I test drove the new S580 3 times and was not inspired to get one. Sure they are nice and better as all new models should be, but there's something special about the W222s that the W223s don't have. BTW, mine is black on black and I too live in southern Cali.

If there was one thing I really thought was cool about the Maybach (and I suspect cannot be gotten on an S) was the headliner was leather the sun visors were covered in leather.

I appreciate all of the comments. With gas prices approaching $7.50 a gallon here in LALA Land, the idea of going V12 is waning on me.
Not sure just what I will end up doing. In the meantime, I am continuing to drive my 2022 S580. To be continued…………

Katie, the S65 and SL65 include the hand stiched leather headliner, A,B&C pillar and sunvisors standard. You are correct it cannot be ordered in any other cars. A possible exception would be by placing the order through the very, very expensive Manufactur process. From the few Manufactur cars I have seen, most anything is possible. One Manufactur car even had partial leather trunk lining.
Streamliner, I hope you find the ideal replacement for the S580. When I look at purchases or spending, if it is expensive I always ask myself "will spending this money negatively affect my lifestyle." The answer is usually no. I suspect that trading a car that maxes out at 30MPG for one that maxes out at 20MPG will not change your lifestyle. You still have the relatively economical SL450 to drive as well. There is probably more to the decision to not trade back to a W222 from a W223 than fuel mileage.

What I believe is going to happen, is that I will order a 2023 S Class. Maybe even drop down to an S500. I ordered my 2019 SL as a V6 450, over a V8 550, because I love the lighter, more nimble driving characteristics. Perhaps the I6 W223 will win me over as well. That’s the next step, drive an S500.

@Streamliner I have a 2019 S450 with 20' wheels and run flats, when the road it smooth, so is the ride, but when it's not, the ride is not as smooth as I would expect it to be for an S Class. But they do look good!
Is it the rims, is it the runflats, is it both? I don't know
Like you, the smaller engine is really plenty for me, I did test drive a 560 and the difference in power, and seat comfort (ungraded leather) was noticeable, I am not in the league of owning a Maybach, so V12
