Aux Battery replacement how badly did I get hosed
I should have done a bit more research before i just took the car to the stealership but i figured since I had 6 monhts warranty left and I had "Aux Battery Failure" on the dash that something bad happened since my hybrid system, distrontic and plenty of other things stopped working. So it was the battery completely not covered by warranty and it was nearly $600 installed. I thought about telling them to give me the car back and going to my trusted indy mechanic who works on plenty of MB's but I had them do it.
How bad did I get fleeced? I am in the Bay Area where EVERYTHING is more $$$

Another data point at a MB dealer, replacement in March on my 15 S550 was $330, including tax. I don't mind changing the oil on my old pickup, but I have no inclination to work on my S. Afraid I will screw up something.

The battery costs about 125$ at the dealer here in NJ.
it took me 20 mins to change mine out.
Very easy fix.

Could the OP have a different situation since he mentioned his "hybrid system" stopped working? Just curious, hoping he didn't get fleeced that badly.

I have CPO as well but he said that it was warranty 4 years or 50k whichever came first. Well that will be the final time I ever got to that stealership, hope they feel good about ripping me off that one time cause the rest of the time I have service done I will not be going there.

Eh, I had the aux battery on my 2008 S550 replaced in 2019 and it was about the same, I had some cables replaced as well for the infotainment, I got a new E300 as a loaner for the day, and another dealer service record on the Car Fax... not ideal sure, but certainly not the worst $500 I've spent haha

Glad someone else paid this much but I was just trying to decide while they had the car and were clearing up other codes and doing two recalls. Well I have lost more money in a nanosecond in the stock market but my days at dealer are done, warranty ends in April and then my local guy gets everything from there.

According to the stealership the battery warranty is 4 years 50k, they told me this battery has 2 years which I was not impressed witth if this goes out at 3 years I know to order one from FCP and have my indy mechanic install it. I really liked the dealership experience with MB like no other I have experienced but my days with them are done unless I have a warranty issue in between now and April when the warranty expires. I did an A service at the same time which with a $50 coupon was $300. I don't expect to do any more $300 oil changes in the future.

A lot of panels to remove just to get to the battery. I have always wondered why MBZ designed the placement of that battery like that, knowing that it would require replacing, instead of making it more accessible. It may be easy but it's still a bit of a pain to remove all the trunk linings when they could have installed it behind one easily removable panel. German engineering I guess...

I am the least mechanically inclined person that I know so I woudn't not have attempted this, however, in retrospect I would have bought an OEM one form FCP and then had my Indy guy install, if you say it takes 20 minute he would have charged me around $50 (he's 125 hourly now) and the battery is $150, so $200 out the door vs. the nearly $600. The aux battery did throw off tons of codes and disabled the hybrid system, distronic and a bunch of other features wouldn't work. But he's got a machine to clear the codes. I did get 2 recalls completed and since I am 6 months away from the warranty ending at least a once over to see if any items could have been taken care of with the visit. Nearly $1,000 for an A service and new battery gave me som whiplash!!!

Alright. I replaced my Aux battery today... I noticed I have 2 modules that are not pictured in the video above. (One is windshield heating & I cannot figure out what the other one is). This added some more time but overall wasn't too bad.
