Rotor thickness

The mass of the rotor is what "absorbs" the instantaneous heat added while braking, and then the air-flow dissipates the heat into the air.
When the rotors get too thin, they cannot absorb as much heat as may be required--panic stop for 120 MPH;
AND..................................... the pads+pistons can come out of the calipers--but this is drastically too thin.

I guess nobody ever questioned their judgement before.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG

If not replacing them then having them put on lathe and trued up is a good thing.
Seems all good things cost money?

Thanks.
