how many you get miles on rear P Zeros?

I had my rear tires replaced in June, replacing the P Zero 275/35R20 MOE with identical new ones. Since I live in California, we haven't had any rain until recently. Now that rain has come, I suddenly notice the car losing traction in the rear, so I check the tires, and they look totally bald (see photo). Here's the thing: I've only put 3773 miles on the car since the tires were replaced. Does that seem at all plausible? I'm wondering now whether the tire guys replaced the fronts by mistake. Or if they forgot to replace the tires at all (yes, I didn't take a close look when I picked up the car, foolish me!). Am I crazy? Is this kind of wear normal? I'm not a heavy footed driver, and almost all the miles would be in around-town driving in Econ/Comf mode!

2020 S560, 2014 SLK55 (Prev. 2016 S65, 2013 SLK350, 2008 CLS63, 2006 E350, 2006 CLS500, 2005 C230K)
Which car?
Probably not normal, I get more tire life from the similarly wear rated Michelins in the 65.
It does seem you have heavy outside wear from the picture so you do have an alignment problem.

Definitely not normal, have suspension checked for play and 4 wheel alignment performed.

My Michelin Pilot AS4s are much less worn after 13k miles. Unless you are doing burnouts something is off.

I see where you may be going, but we are talking about a tire that is evenly worn to 2/32" at 3700miles. Even those who drive S65s/SL65s like maniacs do not wear tires quite that quickly. I still wonder if they could have missed changing these rear tires.

I'm leaning towards the shop just changing your fronts or not changing any tires at all since its evenly worn down to the wear-bars in the center. If it was recent, take a look at the date codes on the sidewalls (see below link to identify it). You do need to get that alignment checked out also looking at the outer edge of the tire.

100% agree and as others have said, I don’t think new tires went on the rear. I run P zeros and I will check mileage tomorrow.

OP do the front tires look brand new?

I’m a savage with my S65 doing hard acceleration daily as it makes me smile and expect almost 30,000 from the pair of rear tires.

It's a real mystery. The car is gently driven (basically all Econ/Comf), I'd estimate 75% in-city miles, 25% interstates. Brakes just got done a couple months ago, so can't really tell from those.

Date codes are 5021, which seems plausible for a tire installed in June 2022. I bought the car in March 2022, which makes it hard to imagine that these could have come with the car and be so worn. The fronts show 0321 and 0521, which is about a year before I bought the car, so those don't seem new. Mystifying.

I was suggesting tire pressures or alignment issue as well. I have not seen a P Zero in that condition either

Good thing they have a warranty. Assuming both your rears are worn similarly, the warranty should be pro-rated and cover a majority of your expense to replace them.

Tires I have purchased from Discount Tire have had the mileage warranty halved due to my car being equipped with staggered tire sizes. I solved that in the 221 S-65 by fitting same size/width tires all around. This was the end of understeer. Though somehow not the end of tire wear issues. Hmmmmm....

Suspect tire was never replaced. Right rear always wears more on Mercedes vehicles, but not worn out in 3k miles. My P Zeros last 15k with 4MATIC.

Well, the mystery is unsolved, but the shop is submitting the tires to Pirelli to see if they will offer any credit (but they are not optimistic -- no mileage warranty on these). So that's another $1100 in tires consumed!

If that shop does not offer a warranty on those tires I would out them here and never buy from them again. Same with Pirelli. I have 10K miles on my Michelins with some aggressive driving on my S63 and they still look fantastic. Good for another 20K or more.

Seems no mileage warranty on these is pretty standard? Tire Rack lists them as no warranty, as well.

Which P-Zeros do you have? It appears you are correct - the All Seasons have a treadwear warranty, but the Summer tires do not.

Ya, you should get at least 20k miles out of the rears. I generally do the rears every 20k miles and the fronts every 40K miles. Something is not right here unless you are constantly driving over battery acid or something.

Yup, the summer tires, which are the OEM standards for the 20" wheels, as far as I know.

I remain mystified. I might have been running them a few pounds low on pressure (checking the tire pressure sensor readings against a reliable gauge suggests the tire pressure sensor readings are about 3 psi high). And the tread wear certainly suggests that the alignment was off. But neither of those factors should be enough to wear them out in less than 4000 miles.

P Zero left rear at 31K+. 85/90 % hwy miles. No wear bar visible but these tires are ready to come off. No unusual wear front or rear.
I’ll try for a wear bar shot manana.

Photographer I am not.
