Does 2017 S550 have factory Carplay?
I know 2014, 2015 and 2016 do not, but was wondering if 2017 has? For sure all facelift models 2018+ do, but I read somewhere that Carplay started in 2017. If so, is their a particular production start date?

US Spec 2017 S550's don't have car play. Some 2017 S550's, with a late production date have the newer MB ME system instead of the older MBrace technology, FYI. But no Carplay.

Do you know the production data threshold for when MB ME started? If am looking for a 2017 I might just as well get that. For some reason I really remember 2017s had Apple Carplay.

It started for 2017 model years for the W213 E-Class and others but the W222 only got it for 2018 model year facelift.

All the other posters are correct about the facelifted 2018 models being the first S's to have Carplay, even though it came sooner on other models, and in some European S classes, but those were facelifted models that were released, as 2017 MY, before the US got the 21018 models. I had no idea about my car having the Me system until I spoke with MB USA about some other stuff, including my CPO status.

I had aftermarket Carplay in my Lexus LS460L, while it was better than nothing it still was unreliable and would crash at times, phone playback and microphone wasn't great...its actually one of the main reasons I got rid of that car and got the S560. If you want CarPlay I would get a 2018+

cool, but let's differentiate here between old gen units for LS, and fully integrated next gen devices that are not only fully integrated (mic works, hey siri works with OE setup), but also work natively with audio input (don't need USB DAC converters) and - well - just work... and don't crash.

I have an aftermarket CarPlay unit in my 2015 (RoadTop.. same as JoyEAuto), and it crashes 5-10% of the time (maybe partly bc I always use mine wirelessly). Very annoying, but better than no CarPlay at all.
Oh and BenzNinja can’t do anything to add CarPlay for a car before 2018.

I installed NAVIKS on my 2015 and it worked pretty well, with the exception of the occasional crash. The screen mirroring is really nice. I don't like that my 2019 doesn't have wireless CarPlay.

Personally I prefer to plug the phone in. Having wireless CarPlay in my other car, CarPlay uses a lot of phone battery, and I’m a heavy phone user. Without being plugged into the car, my phone would be super dead in the middle of the day.
