Has anyone done aftermarket ambient lighted vents?

Hey everyone

new member here 2015 S550 - spending some time just looking at what’s tastefully available for the W222 and I’ve known about the ambient vents for a while.

has anyone done these? They look nice to me and I like the style of the vents compared to stock and I don’t see many low reviews on them.

Has

anyone done them or made a DIY on them or anything? I searched and came across just a couple threads at best.

thanks

I've looked at these and think they would have a nice appearance but I have always been reluctant to implement anything that was not a factory option as I feel it would cheapen the car. Also, what will the dependability be over time, IE will the LEDs burn out or become dimmer. With that said, I have added a Renntech ECU tune…but that’s not a cosmetic modification.

Same with me.. it's a big deviation away from the original equipment.... Also some of the underling models have it And I'm reluctant to have that subconscious feeling of having moved my car down.... They do look nice but not luxury...so I have chosen to pass on them myself...

This kind of thing is beneath a car of this caliber, IMO.

Not to mention that when you rotate them they look rather dorky. I'd pass as well.

I agree with everyone above I feel like it would cheapen the car in terms of quality, for example are our vents made of aluminum? Where as the aftermarket ones are most likely plastic.

With that said full disclosure I have purchased these off of AliExpress so when they arrive I'll make the call on them and see how they are, On my Cayenne 2 years ago I bought Ambient lighting for it and never installed them (too much work) and they're still sitting in the backroom in the box so if I don't like the quality of these or something that turns me off and say its difficult to return these I can always flip them online.

Ive purchased worse trust me lol

Sadly, I think the factory parts are plastic as well just like the window controls. They appear to be wrapped in some kind of metallic material but plastic underneath

This is true. In fact, all controls, vents, buttons, etc in the W222 are now made of cheap plastic. A far cry from the high quality aluminum parts and build quality of the W221. The W221 was akin in build quality to the W140. The W222 is closer related to the W220.

I have them. I like them. Cabin was feeling a bit dated. Instead of buying the new S class since I dislike the exterior. I felt this would stave off that urge a bit longer. Seeing how the 223 has a ton of ambient lights inside. Makes the cabin look more modern. Its been 6 months no issues so far. I kept the originals and plan to put them back before I trade the car in. I love the exterior of the 222 but wish I could have the interior of the 223.

Who did the install? I see it's a bit of a job to install them.

I got the 8 vents and then the (2) tweeters, looking forward to installing these but I think ill have someone do them.

Any photos you have besides the random ones Ive seen on AliExpress? Quality does look good and I want just that little bit of extra ambient lighting on the inside.

I'm not even a fan of the factory ambient illumination of the twitters, it looks rather out of place and tacky.
Something more subtle would have been better.

What was the cost for the Vent install? Did you supply them?

What year is your car and do you have any info on the Carplay install? Any Issues? and Cost.

Thanks, I'm in NYc

Car is a 16. Not sure which carplay unit they installed. I just dropped the car off told them what I wanted and picked it up in the afternoon. Was about 2k for everything. If you want information you can DM the instagram account the owner answers pretty quick.

The genuine CLS vents are 650USD, genuine tweeters about 550USD, CarPlay 300-500USD, fitting probably 200-500USD; cost of going genuine

Wait, they did install the original Burmester 3D tweeters? I remember reading (somewhere in this forum) that they were incompatible with the standard Burmester system.

They obviously did not install genuine because the genuine speakers do not work with the lower end 3d system.

The vents lights are standard on certain W222 facelift models if I’m not mistaken and definitely standard on many new models. The illuminated speakers are standard to those with the high end 3D system.

$2k to install with the CarPlay is a insane cost and a really big markup. 718sound sources all these items from alibaba/eBay and they have some really questionable reviews. You could buy it on Amazon prime. The total cost of the speakers/vents is less than $300 the CarPlay unit can be bought for $300. There’s plenty of videos online with DIY install guides for each of these items.

You're mistaken. No W222 has those vents, they are used in the E Class Coupe and the CLS.

Yes they do, I did it 9 years ago. There's pictures on here of my Burmester with the genuine 3D ambient lighting speakers and the 3D subwoofer, along with wiring diagram and part numbers.

I agree, they look very nice on the E63s with carbon but very weird on the S Class'
