S550 Tuning Question

Hey everyone - I just have a question just doing some reading on my W222 still learning what's available and what not, I believe this is the E63 AMG Engine is that right?

I was just dabbling online and looking at tunes and I see many tunes out there, many at the $2,000 USD price others I see at almost half.

https://www.oetuning.com/products/me...0-biturbo-w222
I do own the OBD flasher from my 958 Cayenne so that's good I just don't want to spend $2,000 USD for a tune

I'm not tuning my sedan YET, I have other little projects to get going first but with all the brands out there for tuning does anyone know or have an opinion on oetuning.com? the price is reasonable to me I like the gains although I'm not the biggest fan of having "646 lb of torque" I'm not too familiar on the transmission I do remember seeing one time that this transmission is not made to handle any more than 550 TQ although I am not exactly sure where I read that. I tried cross referencing on different MB models with the tune info but I don't want to mistakenly read something that's wrong to our W222,

TIA

OE Tuning has a good reputation with the M278. You will find more info for that tune in the E/CLS Class forums.

Most people here have the Renntech tune. I myself have Weistec.

As a fyi the obd flasher (mygenius) is vin locked to the vehicle. You would prob need a new one for the new car

OK Yeah I would have to look into it and ask and see, but I see OE tuning is still cheaper if I had to buy a OBD flasher bu $400-$500

Its just something im interested in looking into at the moment.

OE Tuning always runs specials around the holidays. The last few years I think they were around $800 including the MyGenius tuner. I have their tune on my car. I can say with absolute certainty that their tunes don't make anywhere near the power that they claim. I'd guesstimate 30-40 hp and torque at the very max is all they are squeezing out of their tune for the 4.7L bi-turbo motor. The 130 hp and torque is an outrageous claim.

I knew a guy who installed a Eurocharged tune on his 2013 GL550. That thing was a monster with just a tune and was getting everything out of it that Eurocharged claimed....which were pretty much the exact same numbers OE Tuning was claiming for theirs. In fact, I believe Eurocharge's HP/torque claims were less than what the tunes actually made. I believe EC is $1500 for their stage 1 and $1800 for stage 2. Money well spent if you want your S550 to perform better than an S63 with just a tune.

If you want a mild & safe tune, go with OE. If you want a real performer, go with EC.

Your response has been probably the more informal one ive seen so far - just going by what you said - Im gonna go elsewhere nor my tune then I would spend $1500 max my porsche tune was $1,000 I think? I couldn't spend $2,000 on a tune id rather not even tune if that was the case but over the weekend since its going to be a super cold on here in the North East ill dig deeper.

My Weistec drop in filters and JoyeAuto are delivering any moment and im off today so im basically eagerly waiting that delivery lol

The Weistec tune claims 540hp and 715 ft/lbs torque. I believe those figures to be true, but peak numbers are pretty irrelevant in daily driving. At low RPM, before the turbos spool up, the car feels pretty much the same. When you stomp on it, it's an absolute monster.. but how often do you really do that?

The Weistec tune was around $1800 when discounted for Back Friday. They are one of the most reputable companies in MB vehicles (along with RennTech), as you know since you bought their filters. I felt like spending the extra money on their tune was well worth it over the other options, because even one small issue with a tune can cost you a new motor.

I've been running an OEtuning tune on my 2014 for the last 2 years and have out run EVERY other W222 I've come up against INCLUDING 2 S63's (405 S in Santa Ana/I15 N State line to Vegas) BMW 7's don't have a chance, haven't ran a S8. I LOVE IT! You simply don't know how quick the tuned S is until all others seem to be in reverse when you mash out. I recently got the My Genius as for smog I now can put the stock tune back in myself as CA smog also looks for tune mods too, as a bonus the My Genius also comes with a race tune. I live near both Weistec and OEtuning, nothing against Weistec but save your $$$$ and do OEtuning.

Speed cost $$$$, How fast ya want to go?

Knowledgeable and nice!
