Ambient Lighting install Success!

I’ve only recently gotten my S550 but I’ve been modifying it to how I want and I’m happy to say my ambient install was a huge success.

quality of the vents in your hands feel just as good as OEM and they have nice clicks from it, they light up very nice and IMO they elevate the interior so much more.

got them on AliExpress I’ll leave the link before the AC vents delivered in about 10 days or less the Tweeters took another week I think they shipped them later but they delivered yesterday which I immediately contacted my electronic shop who charged me $900 dollars and did a perfect job not even a single smudge of their hand on the wood or anywhere.

super happy with the install and I took a few photos below.

I have the 7 color ambient colors and each color works perfect I just have the purple at the moment.

looks great, out of curiosity are the rear entertainment screens oem or aftermarket? I've been looking into options to modernize my rear screens and just have a firestick installed these days.

The color tone looks different and not uniform.
Not my cup of tee.

The screens are (2) Fire HD Plus Tablets. Ill link everything I bought below since my OCD pays off when I have a project in my head lol.
The USB-C cables are 10 foot and I run them in the seat super easy and since Ive taken apart the center console for carplay all I did was run them into the center console.

I had another idea at the time using the plug outlet ill link that specific cord and then just plug you your charger and you hide the cord under the center console at the back where the plug is and run the cables at the sides of the seats
Amazon Amazon
I found this mount to work best with the ones i bought keeps the tablet closest to the headrest so its not in your face

Amazon Amazon
this is my current method I run this in the center console under USB2 it's a slow charger regardless even though I bought a 3.0 Hub

Amazon Amazon
This is the USB-C cable I wanted a 90 degree cable so when plugged into the fire tablets its much more flush and the cable shoots down

Amazon Amazon
Lastly this is the plug I bought I ended up returning since i chose the center console way but for my black armrest this blends good its 2 prong and then i just put it under the center console where the 2 screws are and I can just add a charger and run the USbc same as i have now.

Yeah might not be for everyone but in the car itself it matches as closest to OEM and my eyes judging by first impression I don't see any off coloring to the MB ambient and after taking the OEM vents off and seeing they are in fact just plastic pieces I feel good knowing I didn't lower the standard of quality from one to the other.

I have a follow up question for you. First of all, I am planning to do the upgrade within the next month or so. It might be after Thanksgiving because of travel plans. I love the look of the vents and surprised more guys aren't going nuts about it. I think I can find all the parts on Aliexpress for around $400 all-in. I plan to also add LEDs to the sunglass holder speaker; my car already has the speaker, just not lit. I also might add lights to the upper door panel speakers, not sure yet.

But my main question for you is regarding the LEDs for the dashboard vents. Do you know if they can be connected to the LEDs that run along the bottom of the dashboard strip? On 2018 cars that light strip below the dash changes colors when you adjust the climate control. The lights turn red when you increase temperature and blue when you reduce temperature; it changes color regardless of the color that is being displayed. They divided the passenger and driver side, so only one side changes color if the temp isn't synched, but both sides change color of they are synched. I hope I explained that well. If so, that's why I want to connect the vent lighting color to the strip color; I think it would look incredible for the air vents to change colors when changing the temperature.

Again, is there a way to connect the air vent LED's to the light strip under the dash?

What type of shop did you find that could do the installation?
I am wanting to have some ambient lights placed in the upper doors that my 2022 S580 doesn't have due to a chip shortage that year.
I think the kits are sold by same people you got yours from.
How much did the installer have to take apart to place your new ones in? Did it require any changes to the computer or anything?
How did you find a shop that is good at such things, not just someone who will try it and see how it goes.
These are complex and obviously not cheap cars, kind of scary messing around 'behind the curtain' on them.

thank you

Paul

A regular automotive shop .. one of those Stereo and tint shops and i think i paid $900 for install? I forget but this is the video I sent to the shop because we own the vehicles and know more about it then the installers or atleast I do so I sent this youtube video as reference to them and also an idea to what kind of cost it would be, Nothing needed to be coded even though its an S class and German .. I've taken apart my car numerous times for random jobs and it's all easy.
