I have a 2014 S550 in the U.S. It is in for service today and while there, I asked the service advisor to check if there are any map updates. I had the maps updates in 2017 but they say there are no updates available. Does this sound right?
I ask as I see some third-party company sells an update you download and put on a USB key. Does anyone know for certain if MB no longer offers map updates for older cars?
If not, has anyone used a third-party download to update their naviagtion maps?

Try contacting Benz Ninja. I just had my 2016 Nav updated by him.
I have tried to connect with BenzNinja 3 different times in the last 2 weeks about a map update and can't get a response. Maybe I should try one more time.

For nav updates I use https://navi-update.us/
Quick reply and great price, all you need is a USB drive and opposing thumbs.
Updated to latest version about a month ago, you can drive and use infotainment while you update it takes about 20 IIRC.

Any way to confirm updates? Like a road or POI that should be on the map that did not exist in 2014 etc. They can possibly just be selling the same info over and over and you would never know it.
I have bought maps from that site multiple times for multiple vehicles, no surprises.
I am a former tech and an engineer with two master degrees.
Besides the actual download of map data is from MB itself, what they are selling is the PIN so your car will install it.
I don't know what ninjas prices are but I'm sure he can also provide the serivce.

I know this is off-topic, but have you considered an aftermarket Carplay retrofit? I guess the MBenz maps no matter how update they are will not be as good as apple maps or google maps no matter what... Just a suggestion..
I actually enjoy using them more than Google maps but the annoying part is putting in directions so it's mostly longer trips and returns home.
I see. I assume you can use the app (Mercedes Me or Mercedes Me Connect) to send locations to your car too. However, I was shocked how expensive those services are, and now they only sell them as a 2-year or 3-year subscription model!!!!
Ahh I don't have that but that would've been nice, not sure if I would pay a subscription just for that (I really hate subscriptions),
too late to get it since it's going away anyway.
As it turns out, the service advisor had the tech check again and they did find v15.0 of the maps was available.
I had the dealer go ahead and install it while they were there. If at some point in the future maps are not available for a 2014 from MB, I will look at the 3rd party market. But for now, I didn't have to mess with it or worry about messing up something with a road trip coming up int he future.
