Squeaky Driver’s Seat S560

I have a driver’s seat that creaks/squeaks when I shift my weight or go around a corner. Had it at the dealership for some other things, and had the tech check the seat.

They wanted $3200 (!) to fix the seat, apparently there is a felt or something that wore off the springs. I have no problem spending to fix the car, but I couldn’t bring myself to spend $3200 on what is most likely a $5 spring.

I understand labor is labor, but that seemed excessive.

Couldn’t they just replace the backrest? I would spend $3,500 if it was just a brand new backrest. My gut is that they take the seat apart and it will never be the same again, like all the springs popping out of a watch.

Thoughts from the brain trust?

At cost repair, certainly they can replace the backrest if you request it but still involves removing & disassembling the seat. Crazy thought, 60 days out of warranty see if MBUSA will approve goodwill repair. Attached bulletins will give you an idea of possible repair solutions.

Ll91.1 0-P-057914 Describes the issue exactly.

For the goodwill service, do I talk to the dealer or should I go right to MBUSA and contact them.

I double checked the warranty and it’s in fact 23 days out, not even 60!

My seat “rocks” or “clicks” on acceleration and braking. Not really any noises. Is this the same issue?

Seat doesn’t move. It’s a creak in the backrest if I move or go around a corner and the car moves me.

If it was $1,500 to fix it, I would have done it already. $3,200 was a no on principle.

if vehicle has been serviced regularly by this dealership speak with Service Manager to contact MBUSA on your behalf. If not, contact MBUSA 800-367-6372.

I see your point , for a cheap fix they want an exorbitant repair fee . Well, how about using WD40 ? It may not be a a temporary fix but should be cheaper than dealer's quote

I wouldn't go taking the seat apart and spraying WD40 all over it in my car, personally...

have they known about it in a previous complaint while in warranty period? Did they attempt a fix? If so then you have more of a push for goodwill. Also just call mbusa and ask them to hear your concerns about 23 days out of warranty.

I can't believe this is such a common issue. You'd think Mercedes would get this right by now. I had this exact issue on my 2007 S550 and it drove me nuts. S-Classes should get this right.

The pricing seems completely wrong on this?
They are likely not quoting the solution per TSB
Removing the seat back is done with seat in car and takes 30 minutes to r&r.
I doubt they are then going to spend 20 hours applying felt.

Correct, it was not a big deal at all when they did it on my car. 33k miles later and the noises are totally gone

Calling tomorrow… let’s see what they say.

If this was a $400 repair I wouldn’t even care. The labor on the quote seemed absurd.

Just mentioning this because I had a seemingly creeping seat myself - for me it was my belt buckle rubbing up against the leather on the center console. I attached some adhesive fleece and that got rid of it. It sounds like you have some worse issue though. I did genuinely think something was wrong with the seat initially.

I've isolated mine to the seat belt retractor. SL55 AMG. I'll post again when I find the problem in there.

Mine is definitely in the seat. Shifted around in it without the seat belt. I have noticed that adjusting the back of the power seat makes it go away for awhile.

I have the TSB, one day when I have time I’ll take the back of the seat off any apply felt to the innards.

I got the back off and mine already had felt every where. So some one before me had the tsb done. I tried taking the front leather off to get the tensioner out but gave up. I lubed the crap out of it where I could. But to no avail. It is worn internally at one spot (right where the belt normally rides). You can feel a slight grinding. If I could lengthen or shorten the belt to ride in a different position or might work but so far, complete failure.
