Just ordered the Bosch main and auxiliary batteries from Rockauto.com $503 delivered
Best choice for aftermarket batteries.
Bosch batteries are used on many German made vehicles and you can't beat the 4 year warranty (except for fcpeuro.com lifetime warranty) which I just found out about after I ordered the Bosch but I'm not upset.
fcp doesn't sell the main battery, only the aux from what i can see. They want $152 for the aux.
I received the Aux Battery from RockAuto today. When I removed the old one I noticed a corrosion buildup around the positive cable end. The pic of the cable end is after half way cleaning it. The build up between the cable end and terminal was quite thick and I'm sure was causing a voltage drop there. Most of the build up was on the cable end.
Just got the Main battery in from RockAuto. Looks like between the **** poor packaging and the rough shipping treatment from FedEx the battery must have fallen out of the box, hit something, got put back in and then re-taped the entire corner of the box. It got a nice gash into the top of the battery. Who puts those little air filled bags around a 70 pound battery loose in a box? Anyway started a return. Now to see who blames who.
RockAuto responded quickly and is sending a replacement battery. I don't have to send the old one back either. Still happy as now I'll have 2 new batteries. The first one is still usable as the damage is minor IMO and it was never penetrated.
Good catch on the corrosion, all too common on battery connections. There's an anti-corrosion gel you can put on the connections, and auto parts stores also sell little saturated felt washers that go over the terminals and beneath the cable ends..
The replacement battery from RockAuto arrived today. Why can't they ship these things in something other than a cardboard box with air pillows around it. The FedEx guy just looked at me and asked "Do you want to open this one". I said yes. The top of the box where RockAuto taped it up was coming apart like the battery tried to come out the top. At least this time the battery had no damage and had not come out of the box like the first one.
Now I have 2 main batteries, one with a cosmetic cut in the edge of the vent cap.
Both arrived half charged according to my Mercedes trickle charger. I will charge both up and install the good one as soon as the charger turns green.
Both Bosch batteries I ordered say Bosch on them and were both made in the USA with USA and foreign parts.
