Since you have 1 or 2 posts, I think more users would be willing to help if you don’t mind to include the video as a youtube link instead of download link. Sorry no offense, just trying to help.

unless your a good shade tree mechanic your going to need professional help. I would look around for a good indy mechanic that works on lots of MB's, I live in Bay area and there are many of them around and their labor rate is 50% of what the stealership has. I haven't yet dipped my toe in since I have 1 month of warranty left (gulp) but someone has to pay the six figure salary to the service writer, stock the waters and coffee machines and pay for the overhead a dealership has.

It’s not doing anything out of the ordinary. It just has that sound. I hear the injectors under that second knock. Is there a way to check all the injectors to make sure they’re all good just to get that crossed off the list?

Im a VERY good mechanic. Have been turning wrenches since grade school just never wanted it professionally. But yes you are right if I can’t get somebody to give me something on it I’m definitely going to have to drop it off.

I am jealous I am completely lame when it comes to anything mechanical........but these cars are complex, I have an old 84' 300ZX which seems like rocket science back in the day and now is the most simple engine. But diagostic tools and computers are required now.

how many miles on it? are you able to tell if its coming from front or back, left or right? does it increase frequency with RPM?

that to me sounds like timing noise, very similar to a startup rattle I had on an ecoboost F150 before I had the recall work done. Being a 14 my money is on timing system.

120K. It acually decreases with RPM. Only this loud with idle. Just got back from the dealership they didn’t even charge me anything because they couldn’t figure it out but offered a thousand dollar engine tear down so they can do a looky loo. Safe to say I rejected and it’s back at home with no answers.

actually more of an answer than you think.

If the sound disappears with RPM, it's likely oil pressure related which points even further to the cam adjusters.

not if it's not affecting the misfire count. At idle it probably doesn't care much. Once you rev, oil pressure builds and it's able to actuate the adjuster the way it wants.

Any suggestions on what to do to clear that possibility?

Does it go away when hot?
Does it go away with V belt removed?

Could be the injectors cycling, but personally I’m leaning towards possibly the lifters & tappets. It was a chronic condition in the m156 (no direct injection) motors and sounds very similar. The solution that minimized ticking was two bottles of Liqui Moly MOS2. You could give it a shot as a cheap try. I’m assuming you are topped off on oil, proper grade?

I haven’t tried this. I’ll try it today and report back. It definitely comes down a notch or two when it gets hot.

yes I topped it off and checked. I performed an oil change myself. Should I pull two quarts out and put two quarts of the moly in the oil?

Two quarts of Moly would be too much, two cans should be under a quart. Before doing it do a quick search of M156 lifter noise and compare the sound to your motor.
