July 2023 map download
I received a notice on Mercedes Me that a new map download was available. I started the download in the vehicle and I decided to go for a short drive to give it some time to finish. I drove for about 40 minutes and went from 4% download it to 8% download. Is this normal? Seems slow to me.

Yes, the OTA update takes its sweet time. I pretty much always do a full manual update of the maps by downloading the update from the web portal. The OTA update only updates the home region, but with the manual update you can update all regions. I like to have the entire map up to date. It also ensures that the voice recognition is updated. I use an SD card and updating the entire map manually takes only about 20-30 minutes.

Thanks, can you point out where the sd card is loaded on the w222? I’m sure I could look, but I won’t have a chance to get out to the car for several days as my wife is I’ll and requires my constant attention

I'm all Apple/Mac so had to download an app to format a USB drive to ExFat. I've used NTFS for Mac in the past and used it again - I'll probably just buy it. And I had to buy a bigger capacity USB drive. The biggest I had was 8GB and it doesn't go far nowadays.
How large does the USB key need to be for all 8 regions? It looks like 32-64GB? I do have a massive 256GB that I was going to use for MP3 but decided it was a waste of time.
Did you really say it takes 1 hour to download and 1 hour to install in the car? Do you have to leave the car on for that long? Seems it would really run down the battery.
I checked again and I'm still seeing "The vehicle data was synchronised three days ago" but when I check I still see version 19??? I'm in SE USA.

I use a 64GB SD card. Used to use a 32GB, but that became too small somewhere along the way as the updates grew in size. How long it takes to download depends on your Internet speed. With my Gigabit connection it takes way less than an hour, and the download manager will pause and resume if need to. The installation in the car takes place in the background. You don't need to leave the car on. Just insert the SD card and go about your normal driving. The installation will pause when you park the car and resume next time you drive.

My guess was about an hour each - it's in my garage/office so I looked at it occasionally. I have it connected to a 4.5 Amp Battery Tender so no issue with the battery. I left the door open so marker lights stayed on. The Command system went dark once and it kept downloading, I woke it up and it was still working.

So maybe it took longer than an hour - it worked as I worked.
